Hayley Melone is Digging it, after a 3-0 sweep over Navarro.

Navarro was swept in a key matchup for District 26-4A top tier teams as Canyon Lake won, 25-21, 25-21, 25-14, on Tuesday at the Hawk gym.

The Hawks have an 8 game winning streak now, which will be a new standard for other CL teams to shoot for, but that winning streak might not be done quite yet.

Canyon Lake last loss was at Blanco and since that time, your Hawks have been unbeatable.

“After last season, everyone was gung-ho about making a change,” Head Coach Kim Paisley said intently. “I had never seen a team from off season to game time go to all the multiple camps and just have an attitude about winning.”

CL is only two games away from matching that 2009 team that finished their season with 25 wins.

The question now is not, ‘will they make it’ but how far over that mark will this team aspire to.

“We have started to earn respect but we will still respect other teams,” Coach Paisley continued. “We don’t even have a trophy case and we want to see this team get more than the trophies we have from this year’s tournaments we played in.”

Canyon Lake started the first game jumping out to a 4-1 advantage that quickly had the Hawks up by eight points three more times during their opening match.

Navarro rallied back to within three points but Bailey Drum would not have her team falter as she responded with three of her 10 kills in this game to put the Panthers away, 25-21.

Canyon Lake started flat in that second game as Navarro jumped to a 19-14 lead with crisp serves and putting the Hawks in a defensive mold.

“I feel like our defense can get better,” Hayley Melone said. “We can make adjustments….we have been having a second game slump, but this is a different team than last year.”

That was the difference between last season and what is seen now, as Canyon Lake seems to be solid in several areas allowing them to get back into a game and pull out a win.

A rarity happened again as Coach Paisley, had to use all of the team’s time-outs again, to help stop this good Navarro club. This Hawk team responded much like last week in their win over Yoakum.

“Everyone was pushing their hardest and we knew what we were capable of doing,” Melone said confidently, when commenting on how the team responded to Coach Paisley’s second timeout.

“We had to put trust in each other and she (Coach Paisley) helps us see what our strengths are,” Drum said. “We overcame being down and we told ourselves that we had to get our points.”

Canyon Lake could not close the gap after the first session on the sideline which led to a very concerned one sided conversation with Paisley making her point.

The Hawks would respond the second time and caught Navarro after Melone started serve with CL down 19-21.

Six serves later, CL would had a two game lead. That rally had two Lillie Sander blocks, an ace for Melone, and three kills from Drum.

Canyon Lake did not let off the accelerator as their third game was over quickly as the Panther’s sails had no wind to keep their game in a fighting mood.

The Hawks finished the third game, 25-14 as CL had been ahead as many as 11 points in that third game.

All the girls were focused in finishing off Navarro:

 Third Game Stats:
Kills: Drum 8; Addison Farley 2; Mariah Ellis 2; Regan Mickey 2; Hannah Wunderlich 2.

 Aces: Hayley Melone 1

You get the idea, Canyon Lake made a statement game with their good finish and now will prepare for a Saturday game in Cuero, as the Hawks soar as high as Addison Farley glides through the air for a kill.
