MV Hawks 8th A Squad Find Buzzards after, 19-6 win over Liberty Hill

Mountain Valley 8th A squad was all business as they disposed of an undefeated Liberty Hill team, 19-6 last Thursday night at the Hawk Stadium.

Liberty Hill’s offense was stymied when they did not realize a first down until their last play of the first half while MV was in a prevent defense.

The first half stats can certainly tell the story of how dominant your Hawks were, take a look:

Liberty Hill had 22 yards on their last play of the half giving them only four yards on 25 carries before that one play.

Yes, fans usually relish a great offensive game, but it is this team’s defense that is the real story on how Mountain Valley can dominate a team.

When 15 yards of penalties is more than half of your team’s offense, then you realize the cards are dealt and your chances of winning has been dealt a severe blow.

Mountain Valley had a first good series but the drive stalled and the only Hawk punt of the game ensued.

On the Panther second play from scrimmage, a fumble helped set up Mountain Valley on the Panthers 35 yard line.

Seven plays later a Tristan Chacon six yard run would be all the points needed for a win on this night.

That offensive line is still firing off the ball to give those talented backs some room to roam on offense.

“They kept getting mad at me and started talking trash,” Offensive Center Sheldon Flint said. “They got their big man and tried to drive me out but I got him flustered. It feels great and you get pumped up and you like going for blocks and stay low for your backs.”

Flint was embellishing how an offensive lineman motivates themselves when in the heat of the battle.

“This kid (#79 Jacob Thomas) is motivating and he gets me going,” Offensive Lineman Tyler Siegman said. “Our stats are the same as the running backs and we just keep hammering and stay low.”

“What the running backs do is really our yardage,” Jacob Thomas reiterated.

Mountain Valley made their passes count again this night as Quarterback Cooper Harris continues his strong play at that position when he threw a perfect strike to Chacon again for a 26 yard touchdown reception and a 13 point lead going into half.

Harris was a perfect 3 for 3 as that little stat is huge for an offense that relies on a run. Those plays can put a dagger in a defense.

Liberty Hill would fumble on their second play of the second half again and MV would cash in for a 37 yard drive when Jacob ‘Bruiser’ Ruff took the ball through the Panther defense for a four yard run and a 19-0 lead.

Liberty Hill would have another two play fumble drive and Mountain Valley would take more of those precious minutes off the clock for the slot-t offense from Panther land.

The Panthers accumulated -1 yards of offense in that third quarter as the Hawks took some time to find some Buzzards for what would be an early kill on this game.

Sympathy points were scored for Liberty Hill on their last drive to get the final, 19-6 score.

Mountain Valley did make a statement with their last drive after that touchdown as they swayed themselves to the two yard line and took a victory formation to run out the clock.

“That last drive was a combination of responding to the kids to stay low and drive,” Head Coach Brandon Pawelek said. “We had no reason to score on that last drive.”

A good win for a team that seems to be hitting their stride as Mountain Valley will be taking on this same team next week in Liberty Hill.

Go Hawks!!!
