Rodriguez, an 8th Grader, was selected to play in The Eastbay Youth All-American Bowl and will suit up to represent the West Squad.

Rodriguez played on the Mountain Valley District Champions on the offensive line which helped in the Hawk team to dominate this season in every facet of the game.

“He separated himself by not only by his playing skills….but also how he is good in the classroom because having a well rounded students is first in making our decisions,” EastBay Scout Anthony Williams said. “To be able to play in this game you have to bring the full package in being a good teammate and being a good student.”

The award was presented during the noon time when the whole 8th Grade class was present in the MV cafeteria.

“He (Rodriguez), obviously will have a chance to see how he rates with elite athletes from all over and will have a chance to see where he stands and will need to work on,” Williams continued.

Rodriguez was a towering young man on the line which I’m sure was intimidating for other teams this year as he and the Hawk offensive line opened many a hole in that line to allow an offense filled with great skilled players to have great rushing stats.

“This is a great honor with all the athletes that had a chance of making this team,” Rodriguez said. “It is humbling to be a part of that.”

On how he was selected, “Last Summer I went to camp and they said I would be a part of this game,” Rodriguez commented. “This will be a great experience.”

Mountain Valley has had a great ride with this 8th Grade class on the football field as these last two years this Hawk team has shown that they are a force as they step up to High School next year.

“We did really well and it helps that we had a good team,” Rodriguez said proudly. “I know I feel good about the future and their will be great things for Canyon Lake.”

EastBay Scout, Williams, made a point of telling the 8th Grade assembly that sports helps in your development because it teaches you that there is winners and losers and businesses like students that don’t like to lose.

If that same formula is used for this group of students, then there will be many Canyon Lake businesses owners that will be happy when these young people come calling for jobs in the future.

Congratulations Austin Rodriguez, as you have certainly attained a lofty goal and Canyon Lake will be watching as you aspire to even greater goals in your life.
