Boys and Girls Basketball Teams searching for Keys to Success

Hawk Basketball has become a hard game to finish this year as the Lady Hawks will need to sweep their last two opponents if Cuero does not lose in their last two contests. If the Hawks can take care of business with La Vernia next Tuesday, then that too would keep the playoff door open for Canyon Lake.

Cuero has the two bottom teams in the standings and their could be an upset but CL will also need to take care of business in Wimberley to give them a chance to tie Cuero and have a play in game.

For the Hawk Boy’s team, a sweep would be the best way of describing their way of playing into the post season.

That will be a tough order since many of the remaining teams are on the higher echelon of the district standings at this writing.

The Lady Hawks had a lead for much of their game with Cuero but just ran into a dry spell that continued long enough to seal the deal for their loss.

Kyndall Drum was a human vacuum cleaner on the glass as this young lady finished with a double-double scoring 13 points and pulling down 17 rebounds in the game.

That rebound total was right at a half of the total rebounds for Canyon Lake and Drum scored one third of the points.

Alexa Ramos continued her strong play for the defense as she finished with 7 steals in the game.

A better shooting percentage from the free throw line as well from the floor could have pulled this game out, but that did not happen as Canyon Lake continues to struggle from those two areas of the game.

Next up is Wimberley this Friday, which is on a win streak that includes front runner Navarro.

Canyon Lake’s boys team also struggled from the floor as they did have a short lead to start this game but once Cuero warmed up, then their press would just take the Hawks out of this game.

Sophomore Rory Preiss had a nice coming out party as this forward finished with a game high 14 points.

Getting off 57 shots was a good sign against this taller Gobbler team, but too many shots were altered by that height keeping Canyon Lake battling from behind the whole game.

Sean Nolan continues to add onto his rebound total that now is getting some distance from other Hawk players through the years.

Canyon Lake will also be in Wimberley this Friday for their game with the Texans as they will continue to find that key to success.

Go Hawks!!
