Head Girl’s Basketball Coach Zach Burleson
The ReSporter: Give us your overall feel bout this year’s team at this time of the season.
Coach Burleson: “I feel like we are better than we were last year. But we still have to get better.”
The ReSporter: What are your thoughts on being ranked in the TABC and TGCA Polls.
Coach Burleson: “It shows that others are taking notice of us and that we are a team to be taken seriously. There will be no sneaking up on anybody this year.”
The ReSporter: How do you see the district and region schools and how your team stacks up with those teams?
Coach Burleson: “I don’t think there is much difference in this district 1-5. Every game will depend on if we bring our ‘A’ game. Could win any game and could lose any game and most everybody in our district is in the same boat. It’ll be a dogfight.”
The ReSporter: Which part of your defense is at it’s best? Before the opponent gets in their half court offense or during that time of play?
Coach Burleson: “When we are playing good, our rebounding % is over 70%. That is vital for us. We really want to contest shots and grab boards.”
The ReSporter: What challenges do you have when you have a team that is half sophomores and half seniors?
Coach Burleson: “We are still trying to gel more. We have a seasoned group and a group that is gaining valuable experience. Sometimes we aren’t on the same page, sometimes we are.”
The ReSporter: How do you feel your level of play will improve as you get closer to your district starting?
Coach Burleson: “We are going to continue to try and get better, knowing that our district is still tough and we have to be on our ‘A’ game to win.”
The ReSporter: You have gone 20 games now, as you approach district play. What are you wanting to see from this crew before that part of the season comes calling?
Coach Burleson: “We must continue to be more intense on loose balls and rebounds. We have to improve in that area.”
The ReSporter: If you had one wish, which game would you like to play again and why?
Coach Burleson: “St. Michaels, cause we didn’t play that game. We were just in the gym.”
The ReSporter: Thanks Coach we hope to see you and the team this Friday in the Hawk Nest when Austin Travis comes to town this Friday.

Jarred Rollins and Zach Griffin voted All-Tournament at Hawk Classic.
Canyon Lake started their Tournament with a 61-41 win over Ingram on Friday afternoon. The weather delayed the start times and CL was also frigid starting the contest, but a huge day on the board helped jettison the Hawks.
CL’s leading scorer, Parker Mott did not finish the game but The Lake was still able to get over 60 points which was an important item to help pull this year’s club one game off of a .500 record, 5-6.

Caroline Kullberg swats 5 basketball shots in Randolph win.
Canyon Lake Ladies Basketball continued their streak with two wins this past week as both opponents were held to 15 points in taking those loses.
In this Hawk win, Reagan Heun, who passed the 1000 point barrier 3 games ago, finished with 17 points as she would also lead CL with 7 rebounds.
This Canyon Lake school is loaded with the most seniors they have had in the past 4 years and that, with the addition of 5 sophomores, are making strides during this regular season before district play.
On this night, Lainee Moses led CL with 5 steals while playing a clean court game with no turnovers. Moses had her first double figure point game on Tuesday, as she continues to improve. Another Sophomore, Caroline Kullberg, had 5 blocks in this contest which is the most ever for a Hawks game.
Kullberg also chipped in with an assist and 3 steals showing how this group continues to add up those little things giving the Hawks some big results.
Defense continues to be a strong attribute for this group as Canyon Lake has outscored their opponents by an average of 22 points per game.

Way to Go Lady Hawks!!
Canyon Lake will be in San Antonio this Tuesday as they will take on Stacey and then a home game when Austin Travis comes to town this Friday.
With one win this week, Canyon Lake will have their 2nd most wins in Hawk History as the 2009 club was able to reach 19 victories with that star studded group of players.

Canyon Lake had all hands on deck with their win over the Luling Eagles on Tuesday night at the

Coach Chapman planning strategy in Hawk Victory
Hawk Nest, 63-36.
With the Hawk football team going further into the season would be a detriment for the basketball crew as those weeks practicing outside with an oblong ball would cramp those time needed to prepare for the game that requires a round ball.
Michael Harwell, Ben Fulton, and Andrew Nelson were wearing a different uniform that would help in securing this victory.
