Bracken Christian clamped down on the Crusaders with their 6th win in a row, 40-0.

“I think we played pretty good looking at what we were up against,” Head Coach Hosea Stredic stated. “The officials kept the clock running the entire game and made some calls against us that I still cannot find on the game tape.”

This game was out of character for BCS as they doubled the number of infractions and yardage in this contest compared to what had been accumulated through this season.

SA Atonement did not have any offensive answers in matching the Bracken Warriors Defense after holding the home team with just 16 total yards and one first down.

Hawks Work Hard in Win over Eastside Memorial, 63-0

Go Hawks

      Go Hawks

Canyon Lake knows all to well what Eastside Memorial is going through this season by starting over with just enough players to fill one team by this time of their season.

The Hawks might not have suffered player wise as much as EM but one thing is for sure is that many schools were all over CL their first year of competition.

Allowed Points 2008’s and Top Ten scored upon games.

Mountain Valley 8th A-B, Can’t Get Traction in Loss to Marble Falls

Mountain Valley Hawks 8th A Team listen to Coaches after loss to Mustangs

Mountain Valley Hawks 8th A Team listen to Coaches after loss to Mustangs.

Mountain Valley 8th Grade Football Squads continued their rough and tough schedule as a 5A Marble Falls team came to the Hawk Nest to battle the Hawks.

The Mustangs brought a stout defense for both games keeping MV out of their end zone for the evening.

MV Hawk B team did score but had that momentum sail flap in the wind as the play was nullified with an infraction on the play.

It was a self destruct evening for the ‘B’ team as they used their first drive for 18 plays and after reaching the Mustangs 8 yard line the next 3 plays went backwards dousing the Hawk drive.

Football: District 14-4A Division 1 Outlook

Down to 4 District 14-4A Contests

The ReSporter will go over what is known about 14-4A schools as the district football schedule starts up this Friday.

What we know: Boerne is a good passing team but what might be overlooked is how well of a defensive squad they are and how that will win many games for these Greyhounds.

In Boerne’s last contest with Wimberley they had their worst showing on that side of the ball in giving up 385 yards. What is even more of an eye opener is how well the Texans rushed in this game totaling 255 yards on the ground.

In their two losses, the Greyhounds defense gave up 280 or more in yardage. The Hawks can vouch for how tough Wimberley was to handle on both sides of the ball and the Texans rush defense had the Hawks relying on special teams and a passing game for points.

In Boerne’s first game with Devine their defense gave up over 200 yards on the ground but could only muster 23 yards via the airways. That is how most games go for a slot-T team and this would be another capsule specimen to put under a microscope.

Canyon Lake lost their first district game in a 5 set marathon at the Hawk Nest as Fredericksburg won the last two sets for the win.

The Hawks did start out lethargic with a sloppy first set as the Billies enjoyed a, 24-17 lead before a late CL rally left them short, 25-22.

Canyon Lake was nip and tuck in their next set as neither team had more than a 4 point lead. CL claimed that lead, 14-10, while the Billies were ahead, 3-1 early on.

Sophomore Paige Bower was instrumental in this win with 4 kills and 2 blocks.

Just an Usual Game for Freshman Volleyball in Win over Billies, 2-1

Libero Lainee Moses serves her usual stuff

Libero Lainee Moses serves her usual stuff

Just another game for this year’s Freshman Volleyball team as the Hawks went a max 3 game set in winning over Fredericksburg’s freshman and staying in first place in District 28-4A play.

Canyon Lake was on the short end in that first set as they had the lead through most of the game until a Billie rally that outscored the Hawks, 11-3 to close the set out and put CL right where they wanted to be. Behind in the contest to allow another comeback victory.

“We wanted it more,” Head Coach Tasha Ridgeway said calmly. “Lainee served like she wanted to win and she served to get aces….I haven’t seen her serve like that this year.”

Fredericksburg jumped out to a, 5-1 lead to start the second set and Canyon Lake had yet to find their consistency to the taller Billie team.

With the rotation finally able to forge more than a 2 point rally, the game and Hawks started cooking as the next 3 servers had a 2, 3, and then a 4 point rally and now the lead was up 6 points, 13-7 lead.

After having neither team able to close or increase their lead or deficit, Canyon Lake used a 5 point rally that put a dagger to the Goats in winning the game, 25-17.

Canyon Lake was able to reduce their unforced errors as each set continued and also by having 4 service errors for the game helped in taking the 3rd and final set with that sterling comeback.

Fredericksburg increased their lead in the final set on a service that started with both teams tied at 19 points. The bleeding was stopped on a kill by Cassidy Felps but not after the Billies would seize the game by 4 points, leading 24-20.

Lainee Moses took the ball and dished out some hard serves with two kills by Caroline Kullberg and an ace by Moses, the Hawks scored the last 6 points in the match for a win in dramatic fashion, 26-24.

“In practice I never serve like that,” Moses said on her way to the Promise Land. “The adrenaline was going fast and I was hitting the ball as hard as I could.”

Moses had some more thoughts on how she handled a game that hung on every serve, “Toss, Step, and Hit, was all I was thinking as I just went back to the basic level when I first started learning the game…..We do this all the time and this is just usual.”

On the last rally, Kullberg relayed, “I was super nervous and was trying hard wanting to win….when we worked our hardest we worked together.”

Alisia Niestremski had 12 kills while Kullberg shored up the middle of the Hawks offense with 8 kills which helped in securing the win on her last two swings.

Niestremski has a way of celebrating a kill which seems to get the whole Hawk team pumping. “I get pumped up with the point and I was trying not to be nervous but I was,” Niestremski said. “We just focused not to make mistakes and in our huddle we decided in not playing it safe and to be aggressive.”

Canyon Lake had a similar game last Tuesday in their victory over Boerne that went 3 games with a dramatic comeback similar to the win over the Billies.

Bare Bull says Go Hawk Volleyball

“I reminded them of the Boerne game when we were down to them,” Coach Ridgeway said with the wisdom of Solomon.

Now this Freshman team will go up against Bandera this Friday with a goal of being undefeated in the first round of district play. This Hawk team beat the Bulldogs in tournament play earlier this year, 25-18 and 25-15 and will look to continue where they left off last month.

This is the same type of team last seen when last year’s Senior group started their high school career winning district and carrying that wave through their senior campaign with a Hawk District Championship.

Good things in store for the girls at Canyon Lake as Mountain Valley continues to feed talented ladies into CL’s high school.

Congrats and Go Hawks!!

Hawks Cross Country Keeps Running

A happy Cross Country group after good showing in Comfort Meet

Canyon Lake’s Cross Country team was one of the sports to go from a tough district to an impossible district after the realignment of schools.

The Hawks district was tough with La Vernia and other schools last year, but CL’s Boys team did qualify for Regions both years.
