Canyon Lake’s JV squad played an efficient game against Austin Reagan as the depth of the Hawks was just too much for the speedy Raiders to keep up with in the, 38-06 win.

The Hawks started their scoring after a failed 4th down play by Austin Reagan. The Raiders only needed 2 yards at the midfield stripe but the CL’s defense not only held but a slew of Green and Gold stopped the Raiders for a 2 yard loss and loss of downs.

CL then responded on their 2nd drive needing just 3 plays for the score. Reagan had negated the first two running plays so Canyon Lake resorted to a pass to open up those clogged running lanes.

QB Jacob Neel had a wide open Connor Rose for a catch and run of 48 yards and the first score of the evening.

The Hawk Freshman jumped out to a 26 point lead and held their own during the second half in win over Austin Reagan at Noack Field, 26-12.

A hefty dose of Cody Daily to start this game, as he rumbled around end on several carries to amass 120 yards on 7 carries before the first half ended.

Daily had 45 yards rushing on his first two touchdown runs to start the game as Canyon Lake was dominant during the first half.

The Volleyball Sub-Varsity Teams did their patented sweep again as there was no prisoners taken as both the JV and Freshman
took care of their matches in short order.

That was a good thing as the crowd would not know the Varsity would inject some drama with their match by going 5 games later that evening.

The Hawk Freshman team was first, winning with a methodical, 25-14 and 25-08 score.

CL Hawks Dig out of a Hole in Win over Marion, 3-2

Faith Hasness is tops with 20 kills in win over Marion

Faith Hasness is tops with 20 kills in win over Marion

Canyon Lake’s Volleyball team had a scare on Tuesday night with the Marion Bulldogs pulling off a 5 game set in winning 3-2.

The Hawks (16-8) ran out to a comfortable first set win, 25-11 but that pillow lost it’s softness as Marion started playing better and
causing CL to start sleeping on rocks.

Digging holes is another analogy that works since the Hawks were fighting from behind for most of the night.

CL’s largest lead in that first set ballooned up to 12 points a couple of times before the Hawks put the Bulldogs away, 25-11.

The largest lead in the second set happened near the end when Marion methodically played with resolve to a 5 point lead, 22-17 leaving CL in desperation mode.

CL Looking Past and Forward for the Ladies Sports

Canyon Lake has not only been fed some stellar athletes for the boys, but the girls these past few years has also been very accomplished coming out of Mountain Valley Middle School too.

Girls Athletic Director and Softball Coach John Gallagher

Girls Athletic Director and Softball Coach John Gallagher

The ReSporter had a conversation with Girl’s Athletic Director John Gallagher to get the scoop.

The ReSporter: Hey Coach Gallagher give us your overall opinion on last year’s sports for the ladies.

Coach John Gallagher: “This year was a success throughout the athletic program. All of our female athletes worked very hard both in-season and off-season in the athletic period. As a whole our female athletes recorded improvement their strength, speed, and agility through a detailed workout program implemented by our coaches. There was also a higher level of academic achievement with many of our athletes being named to All-District Academic honors.”

The ReSporter: The Volleyball team set the bar high when they won the School’s first District Championship.

Bracken’s Sleep Walk becomes Run in Win over Bastrop Tribe, 36-14

Go Warriors

                                                                                      Go Warriors

Bracken Christian started their next decade of games with a win over Bastrop Tribe Consolidated, 36-14 on the road Friday night. It was Bracken’s 8th opening day win.

Bastrop took their opening drive 60 yards on just 4 plays with a 38 yard pass and run right off the bat.

That jolt would wake up whatever hangover this team had from their scrimmages in a hurry.

“I think what happened at the beginning of the game was they (Bastrop) had some big guys that look like grown man,” Head Coach Hosea Stredic said manly. “They had muscle shirts in pregame than had muscles to go with their shirt.”

That might have been the reason the Bracken Warriors scored their first touchdown in the 2nd Quarter as their sleep walking or playing bigger players seemed to finally wear off.
