Sam York helps Hawks sweep Lockhart
Canyon Lake Volleyball swept the Lockhart Lions on Tuesday night by duplicating their 25-19 score for the match. The win was the 5th all time as CL has yet to be beaten by the Lions.
The Hawks were in control for the first two games and then the Lions decided to get their act together with an 8 point rally third game early to go ahead, 13-5.
That 8 point lead continued with Lockhart up 18-10 with momentum to go another game into the set.
CL was not having a good time for that part of the game by committing 3 service errors and another 8 unforced errors during this fog driven game.

Head Volleyball Coach Kim Paisley
The ReSporter: What is your take after the first week of games for this group of ladies?
Coach Paisley: “I saw some really great things as far as the growth and the development of team chemistry. We did really well at the team level and I was able to get everyone in and run different combinations of rotations.”
The ReSporter: What are some items you will concentrate on as you start the second week?
Coach Paisley: “Well, after passing all week in practice, that really made a difference in our play at TexFest. We still need to work on fine tuning our serve receive. I feel offensively, on Friday, we got comfortable and were able to expand our options and offensive plays at the net.” Read the rest here »

Zack Covington looks for more improvement as Hawks enter 3rd week
The 2016 CLHS Varsity football season got underway Friday night in the usual August format; HOT! Temperatures to start the game as the field had to be in triple digits and the Texas heat spread across the fruited plains ushered in a long sought after football season to begin anew.
The Smithville Tigers came calling on Friday afternoon into Canyon Lake in the sweltering heat to find about 250 fired up Hawk fans waiting to greet them.
The Hawks met the Tigers last year in the regular season in Smithville and earned a win. The key words there in that sentence was “last year.”

Go Warriors
Bracken Christian has been going strong for 10 years now as they finished out of the playoffs in just their first year of existence as they have been winning ever since.
Last year the Warriors had a younger team than their first campaign back in 2006 and if a losing record could have been made, that was the year.
That young group of players not only pulled off another winning season, but played well in the playoffs too.
Now, one year later, BCS will have a chance of making more noise as 18 players will be ready for getting the Warriors in the thick of their district and a longer run in those playoffs.
On Friday, Bracken had three other teams in attendance at their stadium as the first scrimmage was in full gear to start the 10th year of Bracken football.

Junior Faith Hasness starts 2nd Year on Varsity
Canyon Lake Volleyball finished Tex-Fest Tournament with a 5-1 record and continues to improve during pre-district after beating Bastrop to end their Saturday play.
“I felt like we played together but we still have a lot to work on,” Head Volleyball Coach Kim Paisley said. “We had better competition today (Saturday) and I hope Laredo United wins.”
Laredo United was the one loss in tournament play as this 6A school had all the tools in that first matchup with the Hawks beating CL, 25-18 and 25-14/
The Hawks played a 5A school in Bastrop later Saturday and swept their opponent, 25-22 and 25-20.
“This afternoon we were blah,” Coach Paisley said matter of factly. “But a win is a win but we just did not have any intensity….I can’t have the intensity the team has to carry that on their on.”

Go CL Hawks
The JV football team had its opening moments for the 2016 seeing eye to eye, meaning the scrimmage in which they started off with this season was played against each other, at least in the beginning.
Smithville fielded a smaller team this season and as it would happen the freshman got first shot at the Tigers on the other side of the field as Fridays scrimmage began in leaving the JV to bash one another up and down the field to start the season.
The Junior Varsity squad is full of Juniors and Sophomores this season, so much so, that there will be a JV Gold team and Green team with each team looking to compete for district title like last year’s JV team accomplished under Coach Bartels.

Brandon Robinson readies himself for another good Hawk Season
By Cory Martelli
The CL freshman football team took the field Friday afternoon against Smithville Tigers in their first ever look at high school football and picked up where they left off last year as a district champs at Mountain Valley Middle School.
The offense as well as the defense seemed to have their starters already figured out as a few players swapped in and out on the first teams during the scrimmage.
The Hawks first string offensive-line appeared to have a consistent work ethic in blocking a well sized Tiger front four as well as down field blocking assignments with their linebackers and secondary.

Anna Bettersworth and Paige Bower will both be keys on this year’s Volleyball Team
Canyon Lake Volleyball rebounded by winning 4 games on opening day at Wimberley Tex-Fest tournament.
The day started at 9am as CL seemed to be in a daze or still asleep as the Hawks had a lot of unforced errors but this game was turned around as Landry Hollums served for 6 straight points helping erase a 3 point deficit and a win, 25-22.
Hollums was able to get her two aces in during that comeback as Kaylie Duke and Regan Mickey helped with a kill each.
Canyon Lake were still shaky playing Caddo Mills in the first game, but after getting cobwebs cleared the Hawks had their most convincing win of the year getting separation and then pouring it on against the Foxes’ winning by 14 points.

Go CL Hawks
Canyon Lake started their 2016 campaign with two losses against Schertz Clemens and Liberty Hill on Monday at the Hawk Gym.
Clemens was lethal as the Hawks found it hard to get offensive points that was not a result of a service ace.
“Clemens came out dominating,” Head Coach Kim Paisley started. “Liberty Hill played them better than we did….we had too many errors.”
Canyon Lake was a step late or pass gone awry throughout the contest.
“We would have a great dig and then hit the ball out of bounds,” Coach Paisley lamented. “Our intensity level picked up after that first set, they will have to set themselves apart and show that they are ready to play.”
