Hawks JV & Varsity Start Season with Loss to Badgers, 52-40

Canyon Lake’s Varsity started their first home game shooting 22 % in the first half and then collapsed in the 4th quarter losing to the Lampasas Badgers, 52-40.

“It is early and there is a long way to go and we are still missing 3 major pieces,” Head Coach Luke Chapman surmised. “They made just one shot from outside and it was just their post play that killed us.”

Even after starting the game shooting blanks, the Hawks only found themselves down 2 points going into their halftime talk.

The Hawks took their first lead with :50 seconds to go in the third quarter and even increased that lead to 3 points to start the final stanza after a 3pt shot from Charlie McIntosh.

Bracken Missed Train in Loss to Crusaders, 92-61

Bracken Warriors Breaking Through before Game with Crusaders

Bracken Warriors Breaking Through before Game with Crusaders

Bracken Warriors could not stay up with the Coleman Train in their opening round loss to Tyler Street losing, 92-61.

“As young man we grew tremendously,” Head Coach Hosea Stredic said. “We learned a lot in dealing with adversity and how to deal with it when things did not go our way….but we kept pushing and they (the team) had a heart of gold.”

The Warriors could not stop the locomotive Jordaan Coleman on this day, as this young man totaled, 469 yards on his touchdown runs as the Crusaders hopped on their train for the next round of playoff games next week.

Bracken was in the game up until when they could not capitalize on a short drive after a Presley Day interceptions setting the Warriors up on the Crusaders 29 yard line.

The drive stalled on Tyler Street’s 5 yard line and then the Coleman train took off from the station and left Bracken holding the bags after his 75 yard score and 14 point lead in the first quarter.

BCS would scratch and claw back into the game later in the second quarter as they scored to end that stanza to draw within 8 points, 26-34.

The Crusaders did not take long in getting their 2 score lead back with a 45 run on the first play and BCS could not keep up as Tyler Street would score for 7 straight possessions while throwing an interception return for a touchdown.

CL Hawks can’t keep up with LV Pirates, 42-10

Tanner Faris trying to get the Hawks out of the shadow of their goal post.

Canyon Lake lost to a better team on Friday night in their Bi-District game, 42-10.

“They (La Vega) are a lot better than they were last year,” Head Coach Charley Drum said. “We had to have some things happen and take advantage of those opportunities and that just did not happen.”

The Hawks had the table turned on them based on last year’s game against this same La Vega team.

CL won last year’s game as the Hawks were a senior laden team while the Pirates were starting a freshman quarterback and La Vega’s mistakes resulted in their downfall.

On this night, LV was the more experienced team and with their speed and talent they just ran away from Canyon Lake culminating in this 32 point loss.

The ReSporter: Hey Coach, what can you tell us about Tyler Street for this coming Saturday’s game?

Coach Stredic: “They are a pretty good team, they have couple of good running backs.”

The ReSporter: What is your assessment of how you might match up?

Coach Stredic: “I think we can handle them but they have one running back that is 6’3 and 230lbs and he will be a tough one to bring down he is runs like a locomotive. They run the spread and we would not meet another tight team until the State Game.”

The ReSporter: How are you injury wise?

Coach Stredic: “We are injury free.”

CL Hawks Start Slow in Loss to Lehman, 37-27

Go Hawks

                Go Hawks

Canyon Lake started their basketball campaign with a competitive game with Lehman as the Hawks played an even game after a slow start, 37-27.

“We changed our defense after seeing their star player taking advantage of our match-ups,” Head Coach Mary Beth Gallagher said. “We played them much better after the start of the game and I am really pleased considering we lost by 40 points last year to this same team.”

That final score last season with Lehman was an 84-40 score and considering this team being in the 6A Classification then good points can come from a loss.

This year’s volleyball team was helped with the addition of Emma Gray and now this young lady brings a basketball skill set that should help as this season starts to mature as the height can only help.

Coaches Corner with Volleyball’s Kim Paisley

The ReSporter: I guess the only way to start this article is ask, what happened?

Coach Paisley: “I think we had a little pressure in knowing we had to win this game and I honestly feel we were the better team but they (Sealy) played better as a team.”

The ReSporter: There were still several good things that happened this year…

Coach Paisley: “This was one heck of a season and I am proud of the team but we will now move on and learn from it.”

The ReSporter: Now you must say good bye to the seniors. Read the rest here »

CL Volleyball: Not Too Shabby & Final Season Stats

Volleyball says Thanks to all the supporters this season!!

Volleyball says Thanks to all the supporters this season!!

The sting is hopefully fading away after Canyon Lake’s Volleyball team were upset by Sealy last week in the second round of the UIL Playoffs.

Yes, there were stunned faces exiting the facilities as the Hawks had fashioned some impressive numbers for their season which gave the CL family thoughts of an expected win as they took the court.

Phrases like, that is why they play the game, became more poignant as this team had something all of the other Hawk Sport playoff teams have never possessed.

Being favored to win the game over their opponent during the playoff atmosphere.

Don’t get this wrong, Canyon Lake’s football team has been there, but on the other side of this pendulum during their playoff history, as their first round of playoff games have all come as an underdog to the sports community.

In those second round football games, the Hawks have been a participant on the undercard as there have been two of those second round contests, CL, almost pulled off what the Sealy Tiger team did with your Volleyball Hawks.

So, with knowing the differences you might now understand how hurt and disappointed this game would be for the young ladies who had given everything and worked non-stop for a year to be put in a this lofty position of being the favored school.
