“We played well and are getting a lot better,” Head Coach Lucas Chapman surmised. “Both of our groups have great shots at advancing next year.”

Golf | Comments Off on Hawks Finish Middle of Pack after First Day of District Golf

Senior Haden Lee scores points by running, throwing, and jumping.
Canyon Lake Varsity Boys and Girls both were wimmers last Thursday after traveling across the Devil’s Backbone to Wimberley and the Texan Relays.
The Hawks are poised to have their best Track Season as they embark on District 26-4A next week in Cuero.
CL will travel to Dripping Springs tomorrow to get a final idea of how they will go into the fires and bring home two championships next week.
This meet had Navarro and Wimberley in attendance and winning became more of a moral boost.
Navarro Boy’s have had the best 4×400 meter relay team this year and that last race had the Hawks Flying over the Panthers to take first place while the Girls had a 3 second improvement on their 4×400 meter relay event giving them a second place finish.

Go Hawks!!
The ReSporter has incomplete numbers as we still wait for Canyon Lake’s results from their Texan’s Relays.
Those times and distances below have the date that those events happened for those individuals.
Note that you don’t know how the conditions might have been for those results and we also do not know if their are injury problems for any of the athletes.
The ReSporter has CL’s Junior Varsity on the list below where that will not be the case for those other schools.

Go HAWKS
Canyon Lake errors matched La Vernia’s hits in another district loss, 16-4.
The Hawks lost their gloves in this loss after giving up 16 runs in which 15 were unearned.
Those numbers make it hard for any team to get in a win column as the first round of district games come to a close with CL still looking for their first win.
All is not lost as Canyon Lake have several close losses and still have a chance of turning this season around.

Soccer is Playoff Bound after 2-1 Win over Wimberley
Canyon Lake can now claim that every team sport has made the playoffs as Boy’s Soccer knocked off Wimberley, 2-1.
“Speechless and extremely proud,” Head Coach Warren Graham sighed. “We have had a progression as last year we got our first district win and this year we got to 8 wins and that shows you how hard they have worked.”
This game did have several chances for Wimberley to score a late goal and end the Hawk’s season but good defense kept that proverbial ball from crossing the line.
“We just had to keep fighting and I knew they would do their job,” Coach Graham commented remembering those last few minutes of this historic game.
This contest was a win or go home for the Hawks and an early goal in the first half from Matthew Bell gave CL an early lead that they would enjoy throughout this contest.

Head Girl’s Soccer Coach Ryan Tierney
The ReSporter wanted to have a talk with Soccer’s Coach Ryan Tierney after another Hawk team made the playoffs.
Canyon Lake has 4 Team Sports for girls and with the Girl’s Track Team this has been a good year for the ladies as all have embarked on a quest of finishing their regular season for an opportunity in playing more games.
The ReSporter: What has been your biggest surprise this season with this team?
Coach Tierney: “It is absolutely the way they overcome adversity. All season long they have been faced with obstacles and great opponents and they have never given up and have stepped up in those occasions. These girls have a physical toughness and they love to compete. I enjoy all their efforts and praise all that they sacrifice and commit.”
The ReSporter: How does the district you are in compare to the other districts? Read the rest here »

=======================================
This week the big game will be Boys Soccer taking place in Wimberley on Monday.
If the Hawks can win then they will clinch their first playoff as they will have the tie breaker over the Texans after a 2-2 game in the first round.
CL came within one goal in their last week’s game with District 28-4A Champion Fredericksburg and will now have their eyes set on this game with our neighbors to the North.
The Hawk ladies clinched 4th place last week and will now be getting ready for another year of playoffs. Congrats Lady Hawks!!
Baseball and Softball have fallen on hard times as both of these sports lost district games.
The Baseball team was in their first week of district contests while the Softball team have now gone two weeks of district competition without a win.
It is still early for both teams as this will be an important week for Softball as they will end their first round of games and will need to switch the on button on to start climbing to get into playoff contention.
All of those losses for the girls have had 3 games coming up just 1 run short while the other game against Cuero was decided by 2 runs.
Close but no cigar. (That statement is for President Obama’s Cuba trip this week.)
Track and Field, Golf, and Tennis will get back into action after enjoying their spring break.
A lot of games are on the road this week but a short drive to Wimberley would get you back to speed with your favorite Hawk team.
Go Hawks!!
