Canyon Lake Lady Hawks improved their record to 3-6 with a win in Luling on Tuesday, 52-26.
The win was CL’s second in a row as they go into the Thanksgiving break with some momentum.
Reagan Heun led all scorers with 19 points while Mia Riali also chipped in 11 points as both players shot at a much better rate while getting help from the rest of the team.
Alexis Fullen would fill that bill as this player seems to have a knack for blocked shots as she led the team with two against the Eagles. Fullen led the team with nine rebounds
Canyon Lake’s 26 point victory was the best for this season as they scored in double figures for each quarter which was also a first for this year.
Alexa Ramos, another Freshman, was in her second game and reached three assists and no turnovers which is that one stat that will need to be better as other teams will put more pressure on this young team.

Canyon Lake’s Freshman team held off the Llano Yellowjackets after running out to a six point lead in the first half and won with defense and clutch free throw shooting, 50-46, last Tuesday night before the Thanksgiving break.

Hank Jordan and Joseph Boyd are all smiles after scoring a combined 28 points in win over Llano
“They are all new to me,” Head Freshman Coach Javier Almanza said. “I am trying to get used to them and them with me…they are learning to speed of the game.”
“They started pretty well and handling the press,” Coach Almanza continued. “But then we settled down and we had to get back to what we were doing (earlier in the game).”
Llano got their first lead, 35-33 at the two minute mark of the third period as these Yellowjackets were stinging mad coming out of their halftime break.
The lead got as much as six points, 40-34 as Canyon Lake was stuck on that 26 point level until Joseph Boyd was able to sink two free throws to finally get the second half going.
“This was our first home game and Coach said that we were rushing and taking bad shots,” Boyd said astutely.
On how this team was doing compared to last season at Mountain Valley, “Not much has changed,” Boyd said. “We still staying about the same as last year, but communication is sometimes a problem and today we did pretty good.”

1 2 3 4 Final
Somerset 10 4 7 10 31
CL Hawks 9 4 8 16 37
Canyon Lake hit their stride in the fourth quarter as they used that six point advantage to win their second game of this season, 37-31 over Somerset Bulldogs.
“I thought Reagan (Heun) played well, she handled the pressure well and she made some key three pointers and just overall, showed poise,” Head Coach Mary-Beth Gallagher said. “We had a lift by getting the other freshman, Alexa Ramos back for a little bit and she too played well.”
The Hawks were led by Freshman Reagan Heun who scored 26 points to lead CL to this victory.
A pretty good line score as with those 26 points, she added 2 assists, 3 steals, and a block to top off this game.
“I felt we attacked the boards better than we had been and did a better job of limiting Somerset to one shot possessions,” Coach Gallagher continued.
Heun was just one rebound away for a double/double agains this Bulldog team.
Alexis Fullen has now topped more than 10 blocks as she continued that strength of her game with 2 in this game.

Canyon Lake Basketball is a very youthful group of girls which when translated means for a long season in the win and loss ledger.

Lexy Jackson will be an integral part for the Hawks this season.
The Hawks have just one win in their first eight games and the District 26-4A will be calling on December 19th when CL will face Yoakum at home.
You will also notice that Senior Kyndall Drum is not on any of the stat lines below as she will be expected back in December after recovering from her injury.
The Hawks will welcome her Senior leadership and added depth.
Also, Canyon Lake has been given another shot of a Freshman in Reagan Heun who leads the team in 77 points. That is 70% of points scored this season as she would be dominating at the Freshman team, but due to lack of depth with the older girls, this young lady will be called upon for this whole season.

Bracken Christian finished their season battling all the way in their loss to Veritas, 62-13.
“I hate going out this way for the Seniors,” Head Coach Lloyd Fields said. “The team stepped up and played very well…we never quit and did we did not quit in August when we knew we would be outmanned and outnumbered…but this team fought all the way.”

Bracken finishes last game of season against Austin Veritas
The Warriors still had problems in recovering that dastardly on-side kick helping speed up this loss.
Veritas controlled the line of scrimmage especially with their defensive line and the Warriors just did not have enough bodies to put up enough resistance against that line’s onslaught onto whoever the Bracken player with the ball would be.
Noah Boriack could only throw his passes away for many of the plays as he struggled to get open to find a receiver or get open to run.
“We started off slow and up until about 36 points it finally hit that this would be our last game,” Boriack said. “We gave it our all and showed heart when the game was finished.”

Great Game
Canyon Lake has been down this road before….it was four years ago when the Hawks lost in the second round on a field goal try that missed crossing the bar by inches.
This time the heartbreak was in the form of an overtime game, a first for Canyon Lake and Rockport-Fulton pulled out a squeaker, 27-21.

Senior Linebacker Austin Acosta making the stop
“My hat goes off for them,” Head Coach Charley Drum said. “They made the stop and we didn’t.”
Coach Drum was speaking about the two possessions during that overtime period.
“This is one of the toughest losses,” Drum said with finality. “Especially when you are looking at the Seniors after the game….I’m proud of our Seniors.”
CL started this game with a lot of energy as the defense held the Pirates to two punts on their first two possession while Canyon Lake sandwiched those defensive stops with a Josh DeVries 60 yard bolt down the left sideline and a quick Hawk lead, 7-0.
That drive encompassed just two plays for 63 yards and a huge momentum shot.

Coaches Corner with Bracken’s Coach Lloyd Fields
The ReSporter: Hey Coach, I heard it will be raining this Saturday, who does that favor if anyone?

Head Coach Lloyd Fields
Coach Fields: “Yeah, I heard there might be a 100% chance of rain. I don’t think it will make any difference, the field is turf and so that would make it equal for both teams.”
The ReSporter: You had a tough game last time you faced Austin Veritas…what are your thought about this week’s game?
Coach Fields: “I know that they were excited when they got off the bus for our game and we were coming off a bye week and I just felt like they were a lot more fired up than our team…I just don’t know what their mind set will be when they play us this week.”
The ReSporter: You had a game last week in the first round and you have mentioned in the past how you like to play a game and not take a week off before the playoffs start…
