Jeff Camp continues to need more ink for writing down his receiving records for this year.
Bracken Christian lost a shoot-out with Kerrville OLH on Friday night when the Hawks kicked a field goal with no time left on the clock, 76-73.
“This game hurt as bad as the Abilene Christian game three years ago and that game cost us from taking a trip to State,” Head Coach Lloyd Fields said. “We have been playing with a short stick…but these players are playing with a lot of heart and you just can’t expect these Freshman and Sophomores to play like Juniors.”
One of those Freshman is Cristian DeLeon who finished with 102 yards receiving giving Bracken two receivers with over 100 yards for the game.
“DeLeon, honestly could very well be the best receiver in Bracken’s history when he finishes,” Jeff Camp said after covering 202 yards of receiving in this game. “He (DeLeon) made some clutch catches in this game.”
Another ‘Young’ player that is playing out of his shoes is QB Brady Beene who also had over 100 yards passing with just one pass that fell incomplete. Beene had been an important part of this machinery as he has responded defensively and offensively for Bracken.
Both teams combined for 1,123 yards of offense and the last 34 yard pass play by OLH was a thing of beauty and a beast for Bracken as that play led to their loss.
With less than 10 seconds left on the clock a well defended pass play for Bracken had the Hawk’s receiver jump up into the air and tip the ball to himself as he was falling to the ground with just over three seconds left on the clock.
That next play was the field goal that just made it through the lunging Noah Boriack for what would be a typical, BCS vs. OLH football affair.
Two quarters in this game had 50 and 55 points scored in them as Bracken Christian had to go through the valley to get more bulbs from HEB to keep up with this scoring contest.
There were several records that will go down in the Warriors annals as Jeff Camp and Noah Boriack went crazy with a few other Warriors that came along for the ride.
The 645 yards has only been topped one time when Bracken played Gustine two years ago in their 98 point win.
This brawl had 349 yards passing for Bracken which beat the previous best by 171 yards and Camp ran away with several records with his receiving.

Kerrville OLH will not go down as Mr. Congenial, as this team topped more yardage in penalties then what Bracken had faced in their previous eight football games combined.
For the year, Bracken’s opponents had run up 116 yards of penalties and OLH passéd that total by themselves when they left the field with 125 yards of flags being thrown to the ground.
“Overall they weren’t nasty but the penalties kinda speak for themselves,” Defensive End and Receiver Camp said holding a yellow napkin to his nose.
The game started with Bracken holding OLH to two three and punt series. No yardage gained, two fumbles, and three incomplete passes.
Bracken responded with two touchdown drives with that first drive being their longest drive of the evening when they ran 11 plays and 63 yards.

Sophomore Brady Beane is a solid player on both sides of the ball this year for Bracken.
Boriack had a 28 yard run in the series with this drive capped off when QB Brady Beene passed to Camp and drawing first blood.
A key play was a Boriack nine yard pass play to Zack Fasenmeyer for a first down down to the Hawk’s three yard line.
The Warriors would respond with a three play 34 yard drive next when another pass play to Camp found the end zone and a quick, 13-0 lead.
OLH held Bracken in-between two touchdowns to take their first lead of this contest, 14-13.
Then this game became a lights out scoring for the remainder of this first half.
The lead change seven times in the eight minute span as the crowd had to be taken to the medics to have neck braces as they watched this game like they were at the US Open Tennis matches.
“We knew that this game would be a shoot out but I did not think it would be like this,” Boriack said. “Our offense just needs to make better plays.”
Both teams continued their back and forth scoring spree when BCS had a would be touchdown missed by a fumble on the one yard line to stop a chance of putting some distance between the two teams.
Another mistake off an interception for OLH would also give the Hawks a lead and putting Bracken in a catch up mode as this game was coming to a close.
That interception ended up being a two touchdown swing as OLH would score after the pass play and consequently keeping Bracken from tacking on more points.
BCS took their final lead with just 50 seconds left on the clock when a Beene pass to Camp would tie the score and a Boriack run tacked on that important one point lead, 73-72.
“We did not fold,” Boriack said passing the ball. “When we needed guys to step up they did and the younger players did what they were told to do, while playing positions they had not played this season.”
That drive would also have DeLeon catching a 40 yard bomb from Boriack to set up that touchdown next play.
With 111 plays in this game, those little mistakes would add up to a field goal that was just missed for a block and a loss.
“This game, we had a chance and it shows that we can hang in there with anyone,” Camp closed. “If we clean up on the little stuff then we can win some games….We will tell the younger players that we can win this next game and that we need to play hard to get this win….If we play like we did against OLH, then we can win.”
Boriack who had 495 yards of total offense, offered up one more pass for the team, “Even though we lost this game….it was a big confidence booster and now everyone knows what they can play up to, especially for the younger players.”
Bracken has just one more regular season game in Cedar Park next week and the good news is that game is in Cedar Park as the Warriors are working on a 11 game road winning streak and that could not have come at a better time.

Haden Lee getting one of his 10 tackles on this night against Taylor
Canyon Lake just missed a chance for a win as their field goal attempt was just short in their loss in Taylor on a Halloween night, 33-31.
This game started like the past two weeks when Josh DeVries fielded the kick-off on the Hawk one yard line and 88 yards later CL was setting up shop at their 11 yard line.
Four plays later, Robert Woods was running the ball into the end-zone from two yards out and a quick lead, 7-0.
Taylor would respond with a 61 yard drive in a five minute span, but a blocked kick would preserve a lead, 7-6.
That blocked extra point would happen two more times on this night as Canyon Lake put pressure on their kicker all night long.
Canyon Lake scored the next 10 points when Mike Thorpe was good from 32 yards out and then after a successful on-side kick, the Hawks would drive 48 yards in just two plays for a, 17-6 lead.
On that first drive, Quarterback Skyler Tschoepe would run the ball four of the 11 plays which would be more runs than he had in the whole game with Fredericksburg last week.
Hayden DuBois had an explosive play for 32 yards, on that drive, which had CL down on Taylor’s 21 yard line.
The door was shut on this drive, by the Duck’s defense, and Canyon Lake settled for a 32 yard field goal.
“They got off of their blocks fast,” Coach Charley Drum said when reacting to how Canyon Lake was not running their usual plays they had success with other clubs this year.

Team photo of MV 8A Team after win over Boerne
Mountain Valley Hawks 8th A team averaged over 11 yards per play as they ran away from the Greyhounds, 39-6 on Thursday night at Hawk Stadium.
Of the 34 plays from scrimmage, 16 plays went over 10 yards of real estate as the Greyhounds found out that a Hawk can run like a Roadrunner.
Last year, MV 8A team lost one game and it was against this Boerne club. If the casual fan did not notice, Mountain Valley was still stinging from that game and wanted to make amends.
(Amen)ds were indeed made as the Hawks finished their prayer over Boerne by also saying Amen.
“We needed to win this game tonight,” Jacob Ruff said smoothly.
Ruff was just as ruthless whether he was playing linebacker or running back.
“I like to hit, but I like both sides of the ball equally,” Ruff said like a politician. “But anytime I see a chance to make a hit, then I am going to take my shot.”
Another Hawk that plays like the Tazmanian Devil on both sides of the ball is Trenton Lorett, “This is district and we were going to give it our all.”
But don’t forget that ‘D’, because Mountain Valley only allowed one fluke pass play to go the distance as a tipped ball that could have been intercepted bounced off a Hawk’s hands into a Greyhound that finished the run and scored Boerne’s only touchdown on this night.

Mountain Valley 8B squad regained their dominance over Boerne when they started their day keeping these Greyhounds in their muzzle without a trace of a bark in their, 28-8 win.

Hollywood Taliaferro and Cade Dunavant taking in a victory over Boerne
Defense was the name of this game as Boerne had center snap problems that would just exasperate their offensive rhythm and Mountain Valley would certainly take advantage by clamping down on all the Greyhound’s offense advances.
Scoring with no time on the halftime clock when Quarterback Cade Dunavant found receiver Zack (Hollywood) Taliaferro behind Boerne’s defensive backs for a game clinching touchdown from 37 yards out.
“I did a fade route and Cade (Dunavant) had a good pass but it was on the wrong side but I just looked to the corner of the end zone,” Hollywood Taliaferro said as if he was rehearsing for the lead roll.
“That play helped us to keep our momentum,” Dunavant said. “This was our last home game and we wanted this win.”

Coaches Corner with Bracken’s Lloyd Fields
The ReSporter: Give us an idea of this week’s game with Kerrville OLH.
Coach Fields: “Both teams are going to score a bunch of points….this series has produced some high scoring affairs and I don’t see this week’s game being any different.”
The ReSporter: Give me an idea about how good OLH is if they were held to just six points in their loss to Fredericksburg Heritage?
Coach Fields: “Their super back was not playing in that game, he was injured, he is #2 and is very good back and can be hard to get to defensively.”
The ReSporter: What else do you know about this player?
Coach Fields: “He is a better passer than runner, but he will make you pay either way.”
The ReSporter: How have your practices been going this week?

Coaches Corner with Canyon Lake’s Charley Drum
The ReSporter: Hey Coach, you have mentioned how each of the district games are like rounds in a boxing

Head Coach Charley Drum
match. How do you motivate your team when this next round is with a team that has not won a game this year?
Coach Drum: “First of all, Taylor is in the same shoes we were in last year when we entered district play without a win and lost our first game with Fredericksburg. We fought our way back into the playoffs and so our players need to realize this team is fighting like we did last season. Also, in Taylor’s game with Liberty Hill, they almost won that game and so they will realize that this team has the ability to beat us if we aren’t ready.”
The ReSporter: The team has certainly cut down on those turnovers in their last few games….is this something that you have emphasized or was a lot of those problems was just the weather and wet ball?
Coach Drum: “We will need to have execution and many times it is just a mental thing….so, we need to keep that part of our game with taking care of the ball.”

Kerrville OLH will be a handful for Bracken this Friday night at Warrior Stadium.

Senior Running Back Noah Boriack will be counted on for a big game against OLH
The Hawks have a very balanced attack averaging 150 yards rushing and 180 yards passing.
Senior Wide Receiver and Defensive Back Matthew Williams (#7) will be one of the Hawks that Bracken will need to control to have a chance in winning this game.
Connor Odom will also be a prime target for OLH’s passing attack from quarterback Hernandez (#2).
Defensively OLH has many players that will get their hands dirty in tackling the ball. Rance Frazier (#3), Connor Odom (#44), and Zach Ramsey (#45) are all capable of reaching double figures in tackles.
A worry for Bracken is how well OLH played against Austin Veritas in losing by just three points and having the lead until the end of that game.
Veritas had an easy go of it against Bracken earlier this year and this particular game gave BCS a wake up call on how tough this game could be to win.
Injuries and just not having enough players is still a major concern for this Warrior team as they scratch and claw their way into their last two games.
Winning the district will not be an option, but how BCS will be seeded for the playoffs as a wild card team will hinge on how Bracken finishes this race.
Bracken can certainly beat OLH but they will need to have all hands on deck in this game as there has been a Mash Unit setting up shop at each of Bracken’s practices as this season enters into it’s final stage.
Seniors will need to play lights out while the younger Warriors have now played enough games that they will need to up their game to get this job done.
This is a rivalry game as there is a lot of respect shared by both of these teams throughout their years of competition.
Quarterback Brady Beene will be returning for a full load as he has been playing limited action these past two weeks.
Noah Boriack is nursing some nagging hurts as well as Coy Zunker who would not tell you if he is hurting or not.
Jeff Camp will be another player that will need to help on both sides of the ball and of course those freshman like Thomas Johnson and Cristian DeLeon.
Turnovers will certainly be a key ingredient in getting this game to finish on the good side for Bracken as they prepare for seeding in the Playoffs.
Go Warriors!!

Bailey Drum, Lillie Sander, Mariah Ellis, Grace Allen, and Hannah Wunderlich next goal will be ‘Imposing’
Canyon Lake will be officially in the Playoffs next week as they will have the honor of playing by finishing in second place in District 26-4A after beating La Vernia on Tuesday night, 25-17, 25-20, 25-21.
This win was a sweet victory after answering La Vernia’s five game set in that last contest with the Bears.
A win that showed improvement from a previous game is a sign that Canyon Lake might be ready for their next goal.
Goals are something that has been reached on several venues with this year’s team.
“We were more crisp in our game tonight,” Head Coach Kim Paisley said. “It feels wonderful.”
