CLJV Baseball Beat Davenport, 5-2

Carter Williams get the win over Davenport during JV District 28-4A Tournament.

Hawk JV Baseball won 1 of 2 games in this year’s JV District 28-4A Tournament and will take the field this Saturday in Boerne to play for 3rd place.

CLJV took care of business beating Davenport 5-2 that was played in an off and on rain and used a 3 run 4th inning that gave The Lake enough separation to withstand the Wolves one run final inning for this win.

That 4th frame started with a Gage Gibbons single and then a double off the bat of Michael Anderson to the left center field scoring Gibbons who had moved up to second on a passed ball.

Roman Gonzales had CL’s third consecutive hit that scoreds Anderson with the final run scored when Dane Sweet was out on a fielder’s choice.

Those 3 runs gave Carter Williams enough cushion to finish for a win.

Defensively CLJV had two double plays that subdued any hope for a rally by these Visitors. During the 4th inning a comebacker to pitcher Williams going to second to first for the quick two outs and then another good defensive throw out by Catcher Anderson cutting down the Wolves chance to move a player to scoring position.

During CL’s next inning Davenport had their first 3 batters reach with an error followed with a walk and single. That single scored a run closing the gap, 5-2 with no outs in what would be the final inning due to a time limit.

                 Way to Go JV Hawks!!

A line-out to Sweet and throw to first baseman Hopper stopped the Wolves momentum and then game with a final strikeout for Williams.

Game-Set-Match for the Junior Varsity.

What mojo might had been accomplished during the game was quickly doused by Wimberley who scored 3 runs in the top of their first frame which would be enough putting The Lake in the 2nd round match-up fishing for a 3rd place finish.

On getting those double plate, “We do drills like that in practice,” Williams said matter-of=factly. “Practice makes perfect and those two double plays gave me confidence to just throw strikes and let our infield and outfield work.”

Enough said with one more game as this season draws to a close.

Way to GO JV HAWKS!!
