Canyon Lake’s Fall Sports came to a close when The Lake was ousted from their 2nd round of play-offs against Bay City in November, but this season was not without some exciting moments.

Anthony Hockman was Chairman of the Board after securing 15 & scoring 9 pts is last Hawk JV contest. Go Hawks!
Canyon Lake’s Boys Junior Varsity has shown that they will not be a slouch on the hard-wood this year as they take a winning record into their Christmas break.
A game against South San Antonio did not come out on the good side after a slow start during the opening tip as the Hawks found themselves looking at an 11 point deficit while scoring 3 points against a tough man-to-man defense.
The Lake was, however, able to keep within striking distance for the rest of this battle with a wake-up 17 point 2nd Quarter and trailing by 5 points going into halftime.
CLHS just could not get that spark after falling behind 11 points in that 3rd frame that ended with a 12 point climb starting the final period, 43-31.
CLJV would fight back to another 5 point separation to South San, 49-44 with still over 3 minutes remaining.
Gavin Cano was the main spark in this comeback extravaganza finding the net from the beyond the arc three times while also dishing out 4 assists for a chance to pull this contest out.
Another Hawk, Anthony Hockman brought his windex to the backboard after reaching 15 rebounds in the contest while being Johnny on the Spot for those Cano assists keeping this Home Team still in the hunt.
CLJV would find themselves down 13 points, 49-36 with 6 minutes remaining but Eli Cole was good on one of three 3 pointers that started a last gasp run and brought CL back into this game.
Ben Parma was able to match Cano with 5 assists and led the team garnering 4 steals during this final mad scramble.
Yes, a loss but this Hawk Junior Varsity team shows the Hawk Nation that the pipeline has started to fill with several of these players being next in line after a large senior contingent on CL’s Varsity finish their eligibility.
A team with height (Harlow Wisdom-Eli Cole-Anthony Hockman) and ball handlers which was evident after finishing with 17 assists coming from 8 different players.
Still room for improvement on the charity stripe and on the floor after amassing 25 turnovers which were two main reasons for this loss.
A Freshman team that finished with just 6 wins last season has shown great strides along with two juniors for what could be a fun ride when district comes calling in January.
Way to GO JV HAWKS!

Canyon Lake’s Junior Varsity Round Ball team has turned things around this season after finishing with just 6 wins as Freshman and now find themselves with just two losses this campaign and piling on more wins with less than half the season in the rear view mirror.
CLJV was all in against a decent Randolph squad and was able to get enough separation in the 3rd quarter for an eventual 8 point win, 50-42.
“These guys love basketball and we have a good group of sophomores and (Ben) Parma is a Junior and brings a lot of energy off the bench,” Coach Hooper started. “From what I have been told…they have come a long way since last year and Coach Cole had a great off-season with them and they are a lot of fun to coach.”
Gavin Cano’s 20 points led the team as Cano and Bobby Torres (17 pts) alternated during those middle stanza’s with each these two players when Torres scored 11 of CL’s 13 points in the 2nd quarter and Cano had 11 of his 20 points coming in the 3rd quarter.
Anthony Hickman (6 pts) and Harlon Wisdom’s 4 points helped round out another win while working on more W’s as this group of players look to keep their game at a fever pitch.
Way to GO JV LAKE and Keep it UP!!

Canyon Lake’s second half proved the difference in this 25 point win over a Randolph (11-2) a team that entered this contest with just one loss and leaves with a soul searching loss, 65-40.
This was the Hawk’s second consecutive game with 14 or more assists and steals.
Those two categories show a relentless, get after them attitude, especially on that defensive side of this game.
The first half was a back and forth affair with each school alternating runs which would end up with a tied score at half, 26 all. In fact, Randolph had a two point lead twice with one to start the game, 2-0 and then to start the 2nd half, 28-26.
But CL would forged to a 10 point advantage during that 2nd stanza, 26-16 with 2 minutes left on the clock. Then Randolph scored 12 unanswered points mostly from the free throw stripe and took their first lead, 28-26 to start the 3rd quarter.
That was when a Hawk Tazmania Devil was unleashed for the remainder of this game seeing the home team score a knock-out punch finishing with a, 39-12 blitz.
It was that second half that had The Lake turning what had been a lackluster 3rd quarter this season into a sparkling 21 point stanza while giving up two quarters of 7 points to Randolph.
Carter Williams had another double-double scoring 18 points while corralling 12 rebounds. Between Williams, Dalton Stromquist, and Eli Hammons the offensive rebounds was a war zone with these three players combining with 16 offensive boards.
Jacob Holland with his 4 long range 3 pointers has reached 100 3-pointers and joins two other Hawks with that distinction.

Randolph came into this battle with one loss to Bandera (by 3 points) and beat Burnet, a team that was victorious over CL by 10 points last week earlier.
Canyon Lake will be back in action this Friday when they will join CL’s Ladies for a Varsity double header.
The Boys will battle it out against South San Antonio (10-5) starting at 7:30pm and the Ladies will welcome Marble Falls at 4:30pm.
Come out for a fun evening of Hawk Basketball and Go Lake!!
