Volleyball: District Standings & a District Go-Over
Sunday, September 13th, 2015BCS Put Underneath Microscope, Lose to Knights, 57-8
Sunday, September 13th, 2015Bracken Christian had a wake up call on Friday night as they could not respond the onslaught
of offense and defensive power from Austin Hill Country losing, 57-8.
“Austin Hill Country knocked us in the mouth early and we never made it up to the plate,” Head Coach Hosea Stredic said. “We weren’t firing off of the ball and we were not blocking and when we did block then our running backs were not getting to the hole.”
“We looked like we were lost,” Coach Stredic said looking for an exit.
The Warriors have scored in every game and it has been 20 games since Bracken has not been in double digit scoring in a game. Back in their loss to Boerne Geneva in 2013 season.
Bracken did not go long in the not scoring phase of this game as the Warriors had some trickery as they had Brady Beene running as if he was going to the sideline then snapped the ball as Beene darted down the sideline not being covered.
A perfect pass by Lucas McCrum and Bracken was in business on the Knights 14 yard line when Daniel Forgione had his longest run of the game for a touchdown and a quick, 8-0 lead after Carlos Navarro was good with his kick.
That lead lasted 34 seconds as AHC would give the home town fans an idea of how this game would transpire for the remainder of the evening with a run from 20 yards out and a tied ballgame.
Hawks and Bulldogs Combine for 105 points in Loss
Friday, September 11th, 2015Good news Bad news in game with Marion on Friday night.
Good news? Canyon Lake scored 50 points
Bad news? Canyon Lake lost
Over 100 points scored (105 to be exact) as the Hawks were able to stop the Marion Bulldogs on just two possessions.
“They have a good offensive team and they exposed us,” Head Coach Charley Drum stated. “They took advantage of our young guys and we will have to figure out a way to win this type of games when it counts.”
Coach Drum was talking on how the Hawks seem to lose more close games than they win.
Great Things come in Small Packages in JV Hawk’s Win, 28-8
Friday, September 11th, 2015Canyon Lake JV won their 2nd game in a row after a rain delayed affair at the Hawk Nest, winning, 28-8.
The game started slow as both teams could not muster any momentum as the Hawk offense had just 3 offensive plays for 7 yards and a punt.
For Marion Bulldogs, they had first crack with their offense and quickly moved down the field only to stall out at CL’s 5 yard line.
The Marion Quarterback was a master with the hand off as the Hawks defense could not figure who would have the ball.
CL Freshman find Fountain of Youth in Win
Friday, September 11th, 2015Canyon Lake Freshman moved their record to 3-0 after beating San Antonio Cole, 16-8 on a rainy day at the Hawk Nest.
The game was delayed well over an hour before the teams would enter the field but the good news was the 79 degrees temperature when the kick-off, kicked-off.
CL Hawks would not take long before they would score on their first possession when Chance Martelli recovered a Hawk fumble in the end zone for the score.
Using the word recover is a misnomer as Martelle would just pick the ball off the turf and raise it in the air.

Coaches Corner with Hawk’s Charley Drum
Wednesday, September 9th, 2015Coaches Corner with the Hawk’s Charley Drum
The ReSporter: I know you are young and starting a Sophomore at QB, what do you do to help his passing as he does not seem to have found his touch.
Coach Drum: “We just need to get him comfortable….he had good games in the scrimmages and now he is in real time friday night lights. He is trying to make the perfect pass and he will become more of a threat with more throwing.”
The ReSporter: You have already seen several key players go down with an injury, how will you adjust as this season continues?
Coach Drum: “Injuries are part of the game and sometimes you have better years and sometimes you don’t. We had Gordon (McCleary) go down last week and that had us bring up (Austin) Rodriguez up from the freshman team.” (more…)
CL Hawks Win 8th Game in a Row in Win over La Grange
Tuesday, September 8th, 2015Canyon Lake beat #7th Ranked La Grange on the road on Tuesday in 5 sets as the non-district part of the Hawks schedule has been completed.
CL does not have as good of a record as last year at this time of the season, but you certainly can make the case that this Hawk team might be better than last year’s edition.
Canyon Lake now boasts a 20-8 slate and a record that has losses to 5A and 6A schools and one loss to Peaster which came in the Wimberley tournament early in August.
That loss to Peaster was a game that CL lost the services of Addison Farley when she turned her ankle during the warm ups before that game.
Peaster is a 3A school that is presently ranked #1 in that classification and so even the one smaller school that was victorious is ranked in the nose bleed area.
Canyon Lake won the first set by 9 points, 25-16 but La Grange made a statement set immediately when they gave the Hawks one of their most lopsided losses of the year, 25-12.
Volleyball District 26-4A Standings**Updated
Monday, September 7th, 2015The ReSporter has a partial record account for teams in the Hawk district but will have a disclaimer since finding correct records is not an easy task as each team does not enter all there games with the media.
La Vernia, Canyon Lake, and Navarro will be the closest to having their record correct below. Of course, the Hawk’s record is exact.
Enjoy as next week The ReSporter will just have the District records recorded since the teams have to put those out in the open for obvious reasons.
