Canyon Lake’s Lady Soccer team SSSSCOOOOORRRRREEEDDDD 8 goals in their win over La Vernia while shutting out the Bears in a non-district game Tuesday night at the Hawk Stadium.

Brandi Schimonsky broke the dam scoring first goal in La Vernia game.

The Hawks scored at will against this first year club and took no prisoners.

“We still have a long way to go,” Head Coach Ryan Tierney said. “We were firing on all cylinders, but what worries me is defense but we got our job done tonight.”

Senior Christy Fowler scored four of the goals in the win…in hockey a four goal game is called a Texas hat trick and being in Texas, Fowler was all smiles after this game.

“This was spectacular,” Fowler scored. “This year our team is very strong and we are playing as a team.”

Canyon Lake played their entire game playing offense and with the game getting out of hand scoring wise, CL had an opportunity of practicing on other parts of their game.

Canyon Lake had a rough night on Tuesday as the Boy’s team got lapped and the Lady Hawks were beat in the last quarter.

The Lady Hawks had a great comeback in their game as they were down 11 points in the second quarter and regained the lead on a last second three pointer from Alexa Ramos to end the third quarter, 36-35 in favor of CL.

Sarah Schneider adds much needed depth to Canyon Lake’s inside game.

The game went back and forth to start the fourth quarter as CL had a, 42-41 lead with a little over five minutes to go in the contest.

That is when the Wimberley went on a 12-2 run to end the game with a win.

This loss tied Canyon Lake with Wimberley and Cuero as each team has a 3-2 record with a game each to end the first round of district games.

Canyon Lake has upped their game this year as several players have started playing a much higher game competition wise.

Canyon Lake Boy’s Soccer won their first game of this season with a 4-0 win over San Antonio Cole in the Pleasanton Tournament last Friday night.

The first half ended in a tie, but when the second half got started this game became all Hawks as the good guys scored four goals.

Sophomore Jordan Sczeck was the main contributor in the game with two goals and two assists accounting for 6 points.

Sophomore James Alexander was next with a goal and one assist and 3 points while Mike Thorpe and Luke Justis finished the scoring with 2 and 1 point respectfully.

Junior Thorpe with a goal and Freshman Justis getting his goal with another Hawk assist.

The Hawk Soccer team is one team sport that has yet to make it to the playoffs.

Basketball is getting to a place where each game becomes magnified and as the Lady Hawks start their third week of play you can get an idea of where most of the teams might be when the playoff fairy comes calling.

At this writing, CL Hawks are holding down the second place spot with Navarro being in the driver’s seat as they only need to play one more game to finish the first round of games.

Freshman Reagan Heun will play a pivotal role as the Hawks finish first round of District 26-4A play.

Navarro’s game with Gonzales should be a win since the Apache’s are winless at this writing leaving them with a smooth sailing for the first seed.

That second seed will be a place where all but Yoakum and Gonzales still have a legitimate chance of attaining.

Canyon Lake has two games this week that can go either way as both Wimberley and La Vernia have two wins.

A CL win against Wimberley would give the Hawks the inside track for a second place finish, but a loss would probably have a lot of coaches getting their playoff tie breaker books as this season enters into the last round of games.

Canyon Lake Hawks was as cold as the weather in their loss to Cuero losing, 49-35.

Texas RV supports Canyon Lake Basketball

A 25% shooting percentage did not allow CL to get any momentum in this game as they had their lowest amount of turnovers for the year with only seven miscues.

Those good attributes did not add enough points for Canyon Lake and now will be facing a tough foe in Wimberley at the Hawk Nest this coming Tuesday.

Rory Preiss did have a good game with a 15 point game and 8 rebounds but with little help from the rest of the team left this game out of reach.

Sean Nolan did end up with 10 rebounds which allowed him to pass Andrew Riali for the all time rebound record for the Hawks.

The nine assists for the 13 shots that were made was also a good part of their game.
