CL Hawks Volleyball B(P)lanks Sinton Pirates, 3-0

Hawks ready themselves for another 'Point Hawks', in Win over Sinton

Hawks ready themselves for another ‘Point Hawks’, in Win over Sinton

CL Hawks make the Sinton Pirates walk the plank in last Friday night’s game, 25-19, 25-16, 25-19.

The Hawks looked in control on this night as they met a team that was playing students that were younger than they were.

Sinton had several freshman and sophomores on the court which might sound a lot like last year’s Hawk team.

The good news is that CL did not show any mercy as they disposed of this Pirate team before they had a chance to get a patch put over their eye.

Each game had Canyon Lake taking a lead and maintaining the pressure and not letting Sinton to get back into position to stage a knock out punch.

BCS Passes Pop-Quiz, Beats CASA, 51-6

Sunday, September 7th, 2014

Class was called in for a pop quiz that would be on the docket, as BCS Warriors passed their test in their CASA, 51-6.

Sophomore Brady Beane takes control against CASA

Sophomore Brady Beane takes control against CASA

“If football was an academic course then last week we had a chapter test and this week was a ‘Pop Quiz’,” Head Professor Lloyd Fields taught. “This next week will be our most important class when we take a 6-Week Test.”

Bracken has 45ed the Rams every year in this seven year series and this would be no different after a Noah Boriack 38 yard run with 5:20 left in the third quarter closed out the game.

BCS needed this to be a ‘Mercy’ game based on being short in numbers this season and going home early was a welcome relief for a team that played over 100 plays last week in Temple.

CLJV Defense Becomes Offensive in Win, 34-6 over Smithville

Friday, September 5th, 2014

Canyon Lake’s JV team has now won two more games than last year as the Hawks awakened in the second half and inflicting damage on Smithville, without using their offense.

The game was still much in doubt at halftime as both teams struggled to get enough positive plays to counteract some missed snaps and penalties.

“We made too many mistakes and we have some things to work hard on in practice,” Head JV Coach Jon Barthels assessed. “I’m happy with this game, the way we finished in the second half, it sometimes just takes a while to get going.”

Coaches Corner with Volleyball’s Kim Paisley:

The ReSporter: What are your thoughts about where Canyon Lake is now compared to the beginning for the season?

Coach Paisley: Varsity: “We started off the season with good intensity, and with having played 25 matches in less than a month and school starting, we began to experience some challenges and new elements. I definitely feel we are back on track and getting a bit more rest now that Varsity’s tournaments season is complete.”

Subvarsity: “They are both working very hard from the beginning of the season and up to this point. We are seeing a lot of personal development and maturity from the players, and discovering leaders as the season progresses.”

The ReSporter: Have you been pleased about your tournament play?

Coach Paisley: “The Varsity has brought home hardware from all three tournaments this year! We definitely gained many learning experiences, playing time for all, and we have developed our mental toughness.”

“The Subvarsity tournament will be in Wimberley next Thursday and Saturday, for their Tex-Fest.”

CL Freshman Win in a Gold Rush, 49ers-22

Hawk Freshman listening for where their next Gold Rush will take place.

The Canyon Lake Freshman (2-0) team continues to impress as they started a ‘gold’ rush with their win over the Tigers in Smithville Thursday night, 49ers-22.

Luke Justis started the game off with a 43 yard run and the Hawks would not trail in the game as an incentive had been placed in front of this Freshman team.

“We (the team) saw some gold pants in the dressing room and we liked them and asked the coaches if we could wear them,” Justis said. “The coaches said if we scored 50 points then we could wear them.”

By ground or by air, Justis proved he was running for gold as he finished the first half by jumping to snag a pass from Ben Fulton with no time left on the clock.

Pre/Game: Bracken Warriors @ CASA Rams 5:30pm

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2014
Pre/Game: Bracken Warriors vs. CASA Rams September 5th 5:30pm

History: Warriors lead 6-0 in a series started in 2008.
 BCS 58 CASA 13
 BCS 64 CASA 19
 BCS 50 CASA 00
 BCS 74 CASA 06
 BCS 53 CASA 00
 BCS 67 CASA 21

 This Season's Games:
Bracken Warriors 45 Temple Holy Trinity 18 CASA 6 Kerrville OLH 51

The Warriors did not have anyone hurt last week!!!!  Yes, unfortunately that is the biggest statistics for this season’s team with so many players from last year missing and not playing will make this year a game of numbers.

Number of players on their roster, numbers.

That was carried out last week, when Bracken  went on the road to Temple and took care of business playing a team that had enough players to field two teams.

The Temple game had 113 plays which is second on their play list, only behind the Gustine game played two years ago when the Warriors had 127 plays in that 98-56 victory.

Not much is known about CASA, except that they usually don’t field a team that will win many games, as you can note having been beaten by OLH last week, 51-6.

There has yet to be a game played by these two teams that went four quarters. The Warriors have averaged a 61-9.8 score through those years. You can even add up all the points scored by the Rams and it would still not add up to that 61 point average.

Domination has been the name of this series and with the results of last week’s game, BCS might be playing another game not going four quarters and that would be just what the doctor would order.

Once again based on having that injury word not being mentioned on this night and a scoreboard that can be turned off early and the Warriors on their way home.

Bracken will not have a home game for two more weeks, but one stat that will play in favor of this schedule comes with a 30-4 road record.

The Warriors will still need to do their business and get enough reps for many of the Freshman that are starting this year.

Also, just working the cobwebs out of their system, as this year will have more tough teams on the horizon and taking a Friday off would not be the best course of action.

Hopefully, BCS will be able to up that win total to 31 after Friday night.
