Senior Eli Achilles will be adding two more 6-Man Football games to his resume as this stand-out

Senior Eli Achilles (right) posed with Junior Davis Scott before start of 2012 season.

player has been invited to play in two All-Star games this Summer.

Achilles (if you have forgotten) had accomplished many goals while playing for Bracken in his four years.

This young man was the QB in all four years of playing and excelled on the defensive side of the ball also.

Here are some honors made this past season:

For District:
First Team Offense: Running Back
First Team Defense: Linebacker

Offensive MVP and Defensive MVP

No player had ever accomplished the double dip with those letters MVP before, from both sides of the ball.

For State:
First Team Running Back
First Team Linebacker

Lady Hawks 4×400 Meter Relay has some Unfinished Business

Monday, April 22nd, 2013

The Canyon Lake foursome of Mariah Ellis, Brookelynn Helmke, Hannah

Sophomore Mariah Ellis is Thumbs Up for this years Relay team in Regions

Graves, and Amber Ramsey are carrying on a tradition for Girls Track in that they are running in the Region Meet for the third year in a row.

Each year they are at the doorstep knocking on that door for the State Meet. With times in the 4:10 area this team seems to be the closest in that line of 1600 Meter Relay teams to break that 4:10 barrier.

That will be something they will need to accomplish in order to give them a legitimate chance of being one of the last two Relay Teams standing.

Mariah Ellis will be running in her second Region Meet this week and certainly had a spectacular run at District 27-3A two weeks ago on her leg.

Ellis made up a some ground and caught several teams on that back stretch to get the baton to Amber Ramsey for her anchor leg.

“All I was thinking was I want to make Regions,” Mariah said with resolve. “When everyone is cheering for you it pushes you to go.”

Go, is what Ellis did on that night as she had the home crowd cheering her and the other group of girls for a place to keep having a chance of advancing.

Canyon Lake did not have their best time in district but they were not off much from their run in the Hawk Relays where they had the best 4×400 Relay time ever for the Hawks.

Region Track Meet This Week-End for CL Athletes

Sunday, April 21st, 2013

Canyon Lake Sports is nearing their final competition with opposing teams as Baseball will

Senior Kaelin Simmons will compete in Shot-Put and Discus at Region Meet

now enter their final week and Track and Field will be entering the Region Meet this Week-End.

The ReSporter will have more Track articles as we prepare of this week’s meet.

Enough distances and times have been recorded to get an idea of how each of CL’s athletes will fare going into this week’s Region Meet.

Jordan Anderson still has the best High Jump mark and has a student that has attained that same height.

Anderson has not put a lot of time with this event in the past and now finds himself immersed in wanting to end his track career on a high note. That is certainly doable based on having the best jump in the region.

Once again, as Canyon Lake certainly proved in their District Meet, nothing is in the bag and you have to come out and bring your ‘A’ game no matter what your rank or circumstances.

Their are four athletes with a high jump of 6’4 and then a sharp drop off from that mark. IF and The ReSporter means IF, Anderson can take care of business then he will have a decent chance of advancing to State and from there can boast of going to State in competing in two different venues in his last two years.

Marisa Ellis also competed in the State Meet last year, but will certainly have her work cut out for her as her Region is certainly loaded with several ladies with high marks.

In District 25 and 26 there are two jumpers with a 39′ and almost 41′ jumps so far this season.

Being that you need to finish in the top two to advance will put Marisa in a place that will certainly need a leap that can improve her present best up to this point.

Marisa Ellis has a 37’3.75 jump and is ranked right behind those two students.

Ellis has a tough road with the High Jump also as she is tied with five other athletes with that same mark. That simply means that the one student that can reach that mark with the least amount of scratches will certainly advance.

Hawks Finish UP in Win over Wimberley, 9-7

Saturday, April 20th, 2013

Canyon Lake JV beat Wimberley for the fourth time this season as they take 3rd Place in District

Kyle Krohn and Jonathan McGuire celebrating after another won over Wimberley

27-3A, 9-7.

In a phrase, Canyon Lake Owns the Wimberley Texans this season as this game gave the Hawks their fourth win over their friends from the north.

CL gift wrapped six errors and five walks and still did more little things right which helped in giving an edge to the Hawks.

More enthusiasm seemed to be a common theme among the players and coaches.

“After Thursday’s games they were geared up today,” Head JV Coach Brian Owens said. “Yes, we had a few errors, but we were ready to rock when they got off the bus.”

“They (Hawks baseball team) figured it out on Thursday and I’m not a chanting Coach, but when they used that to get fired up then I will just let them go at it…when they got off the bus they wanted to play with enthusiasm.”

The break out inning happened in the fourth with four runs and giving CL a lead that would not be taken for the rest of this windy but beautiful day.

Gordon McCleary reached on an error to start off that inning and then was followed by a single from Nick Kissell.

With two batters on and one out, Hayden Lee hit a line drive through the infield and started the flood gates for Canyon Lake.

Softball Hawks Finish Season with Loss to Navarro, 3-2

Saturday, April 20th, 2013

The Hawks said good-bye to four Seniors on a hard fought extra inning affair loss to Navarro,

Senior Cassidy Riccio Leaves the Hawk Diamond for last time as Italian Stallion

3-2.

“I thought we played a very good game,” Head Coach John Gallagher said. “But our future is bright as we have a lot of young talent and more coming in.”

Canyon Lake took the early lead when scoring on a fly out off the bat of Brianna Young that scored Alexis Robinson who had reached base following on an error.

That run held up until on a controversy call on a run scored after a Navarro base runner scored on a run down between third and second base.

Young had good position to apply the out, but the Panther appeared to slide under that tag.

Freshman pitcher Robinson responded by striking out the side the next inning on a full count pitch.

Robinson had now retired seven straight Navarro batters going into that eighth inning but.an error trying to get an out at first after a sacrifice bunt proved to be a run your Hawks could not overcome.

CL had almost pulled off an improbable act by responding with four consecutive singles in that eighth inning which could of prolonged the game for the, never give up, tenacity of this Hawk team.

This game was not to be as Navarro was able to get two infield outs at the plate and a final strike out.

Hawks Lose Series to Boerne, 7-1

Saturday, April 20th, 2013

Senior Catcher Michael Brady

Canyon Lake lost their series to Boerne after a hard fought game Friday night, 7-1.

The Hawks out hit the Greyhounds but they could not bunch enough hits together to mount many threats.

Another good outing from pitcher Ryan Hutcheson as he held this very potent offense to just six hits.

J. J. Nance continues to climb up with his batting average after collecting two of CL’s hits.

Daniel Reed also got back into action and responded with a hit and the Hawks lone run.

“We played awesome defense,” Head Coach Trent Dunavant started. “We could not string hits together and Boerne had hits that were doubles, triples and a deep home run.”

Boerne has had a dominating baseball team this season with a 12-0 record in district play.

Look at the Greyhounds games with District 27-3A teams when you add runs from their three game series.

If you add runs scored for those games, then you would have the scores shown below from those composite scores.

 Bandera 34-1
 Fredericksburg 33-3
 Navarro 28-6
 Canyon Lake 11-3
 Wimberley* 10-4 (1 game)

*Will finish series with Wimberley next week.

Thursday, April 18th, 2013

Canyon Lake JV Baseball team split their two games on Thursday for the opening day of District 27-3A Tournament.

In the first game CLJV beat Bandera and then faced Boerne in a loss to a team that seems to have the Hawk’s number this season.

Anytime you have as many errors as you have hits will tell you that this might not be a good result.

Canyon Lake will now face one of the three teams that met in Boerne for the other three team pod.

Saturday at 12 Noon will be the start time as the Hawks will play for 3rd place finish in district play in Boerne.

Jonathan McGuire led CLJV with two hits while Hayden Dubois and Austin Headrick scored the only runs of this contest in that first inning.
