Head Coach Matt Monzingo

Head Coach Matt Monzingo

The ReSporter has come to a realization that you don’t have to have a catchy title when you have scored an interview with the Head Coach for Canyon Lake High School.

The Hawks have a lot of momentum coming into this season. The team won four out of its last five games, and the loss was razor thin.

This Summer the ReSporter has spent much of its time interviewing and talking about the Offensive Lineman and Coach Monzingo started right on the same page.

“There is nothing harder for the offensive line Coach, than to balance the pass blocking and run blocking,” Coach Monzingo started.

BCS Depth Charges Hit Target Say GoodKnight to Covenant, 52-38

The Bracken Christian Warriors climbed a steep mountain in just five years to the pinnacle of TAPPS Division 1 football championship. The Warriors proved their worth in defeating Dallas Covenant Knights last Saturday in Moody, Texas.

The Championship game in Six-Man Division 1 has been dominated by schools in North Texas for the last six years. The Championship game has not had a south team play since the 2003 season, when Austin Regents ended their three year reign with three championships in a row.

Enter a team that many pundits said could not win the game because their was no depth on the roster. The team had one or two players at the most and that would not carry the Warriors to the trophy room. I don’t know what those pundits were smoking….but I do know that smoking is not allowed in the stadium, meaning they had not seen BCS play this year.

A Look at District 26-3A Football Schedules

Saturday, July 9th, 2011

The ReSporter would like to take a look at the teams and what their football record was in comparison to the rest of the District. The records were only based on the team played in the regular season.

Canyon Lake played a 14-1 Wimberley team and so that was the number used for strength of schedule. The playoffs however were not calculated, so the 8-3 record of Burnet was not used nor was the Somerset record.

So each team will have a different number of games in the formula, but if the team played opponents that went far in the playoffs for their regular season game, then their record would reflect that calculation.

Offensive Tackle: Michael Brady

Offensive Tackle Michael Brady

Offensive Tackle Michael Brady

Michael Brady is another undefeated Junior Varsity player that will add depth for the line. The young man has probably grown one or two inches since the ReSporter interviewed him.

How about: 6’2”     200 lbs.    Left Tackle     Junior

Brady also played a little quarterback for the JV last year, but the feeling that those days might be gone unless the Hawks can start beating teams like they were beaten in 2008.

CL Gold Wins 18 while Losing 4, 18-4

Thursday, July 7th, 2011

The Canyon Lake Gold Juniors baseball team took their final game on the chin, but the overall effect of a great season will always be best memory of the season.

Yes, the game did go to Seguin, but in the end the Gold team won 18 games on the season with a paltry four loses. That is the score that can be remembered by the players, Coaches, and fans.

The team had endured many games and highlights, “I had been with the team for a long time and enjoyed their last year,” a reflecting Coach Eddie Avey said. “It has been great getting to know the kids.”
