Boy’s Track and Field: Coaches Corner

Resporter: Jordan Anderson is one of the fastest short distance runners in District, did you run Anderson in the 4×100 relay in Dripping Springs?

Coach Montgomery: “Yes, he ran the anchor leg and we finished 2nd overall.”

ReSporter: I saw that Dakota Repa came in and scored points for you in the Dripping meet and he has not run yet this year.

Coach Montgomery: “(Dakota) Repa is finally getting into track shape after coming over from soccer. He will has a legitimate chance of making the top three in the 300 hurdles.” (more…)

Baseball Greyhounds Race by Hawks, 11-1

Canyon Lake could not get out of the ‘canyon’ they dug themselves into after allowing six runs in the first inning against Boerne last Friday night at the Hawk diamond.

The strike zone was missing in action at the start of the game and the Hawks could not climb out, as they lost in a shortened game because of the 10 run rule.

“The difference in the last two games was jumping out to a four run lead against Navarro and giving up a six runs in the first inning to Boerne,” Head Coach Trent Dunavant said. (more…)

Hawks Softball Win Third Straight over Boerne, 6-0

Canyon Lake whitewashed the Boerne Greyhounds in a win that helped cement the Hawks into second place in the District 26-3A race last Friday night at the Canyon Lake diamond.

Pitcher Missy Romero helped the Hawks win their third game in a row and also winning their second straight over the Greyhounds.

Canyon Lake has now scored 29 runs In the last three games helping take a lot of pressure off the defense. The bottom of the batting order were the players that raised the bar for this win. (more…)

Softball Profile: Missy Romero

MissyRomeroThe Hilltop ReSporter will be taking a look at individual players for the rest of the season.

The first stop will be from the circle as we look at Junior Pitcher Missy Romero.

Pitcher for a softball team has been the pivotal player for any team, because of the chance of dominating the game with strikeout power. This aspect had been adjusted this year when UIL moved the circle back three feet to the same distance as the college game. (more…)

Baseball: Hawks even District Record Beat Navarro, 5-2

The Canyon Lake Hawks beat Navarro Panthers last Tuesday night to put themselves in the hunt for a good district run.

Zach Jenkins continues to pitch well as he has the two wins in District play.

The Hawks gave Jenkins some breathing room jumping out to a four run lead before he had to take the mound.

Canyon Lake had three extra base hits in the first inning. Daulton Winters tripled, followed with a double from Brandon Felts, and then Kyler Huff sending the ball over the fence with his at bat. (more…)

The Hawks are fighting with three teams for two playoff spots as district play goes into the second round.

Canyon Lake, Billies, and Texans, will be fighting for those two spots and the games between those teams the second time around will determine who can advance. (more…)

Lady Hawks Beat Navarro, 11-3

The Canyon Lake Softball team beat the Navarro Panthers, 11-3 scoring in every inning but one last Tuesday night on the road.

The Hawks have plugged in their extension cord after suffering a power outage as recently as last week. In the last two games Canyon Lake has scored 24 runs improving the most important part of the game….scoring. (more…)

The Last Hurdle for Polio

img_2636This past Saturday at Canyon Lake High School the interact club held their relay for life benefiting Polio.

Keegan Collins headed up the endeavor as the interact club were up bright and early for the 5K and fun run. Whether you were running or walking they had something for everyone.

“Last November we came up with this idea and we have been ‘running’ with it ever since,” Organizer Collins said. “We started at about seven this morning putting it all together.” (more…)
