Bracken Christian 2010 Football Records

Bracken Christian Championship Ring

Bracken Christian Championship Ring

The Bracken Christian 6-Man Championship season was full of broken records. The season had many memorable moments and the list below are some of the records tabulated by the ReSporter.

Please note the records are sketchy for the first three years, and many records in passing in those years are not noted.

However, you would not be far off in guessing that the chance of the vast majority of the first year’s feats would not be in the same area code from this past season.

Read and enjoy the accomplishments and get ready for another chance starting this August to rewrite some of the records that are mentioned below.

Zach and Grady the Dynamic Duo–Summer Article

Zach Henshaw and Grady Achillies

Zach Henshaw and Grady Achillies

The ReSporter continues part two on the Dynamic Duo.

Zach Henshaw and Grady Achilles are the two running backs for Canyon Lake and Bracken Christian respectfully.

The two backs have a decorated career and are now on their final chapter in the High School arena. Both players have helped in taking their team to heights that are significant based on the age of the two programs.

Flint Diaries

Bobby Flint

Bobby Flint

Bobby Flint will be off to San Angelo soon with a chance to continue playing football. The Angelo State University Rams will be the new stomping grounds for the recent graduated linebacker off the Canyon Lake team.

Flint will have an ongoing journal of what he has done and will do throughout his first year playing football at the College level.

This journal will be posted so others might take some lessons on what to expect if they take their skills to the next level. The ReSporter hopes you enjoy this feature.

The Dynamic Duo–Repeat From Summer

Canyon Lake's Zach Henshaw

Canyon Lake's Zach Henshaw

Bracken's Grady Achilles

Bracken’s Grady Achilles

The ReSporter has the privilege of covering two of the better running backs in the region this year. Both teams go unnoticed for similar reasons…Bracken Christian will be competing in their sixth season while the Canyon Lake Hawks will be in their fourth season against Varsity teams.

Many of the players will not get the same ink as players from established schools. Both programs made significant strides last year with Bracken celebrating a Division I Championship and Canyon Lake winning their first playoff game.

Both teams have running backs that will have records that will be hard to top in the years to come.

Grady Achilles and Zach Henshaw will both be Seniors playing in the backfield. Both players have put a lot of skins on the wall the last two years…here are some samples:

Zach Henshaw

  1. Rushed for 2,259 yards in the last two seasons.
  2. Averaging 119 yards per game.
  3. Finished last season  with 771 yards in his last four games.
  4. Henshaw averaged 7.5 yards per carry during that stint.
  5. Topped 100 yards rushing in eight of the last ten games played.
  6. Henshaw has averaged 211 yards in the last three playoff games.
  7. He has averaged over 5 yards per carry for his career.

How did BCS win it all last year?

The obvious reason was the Warriors being better. There were several items that fell together that helped in the undefeated season.

The ReSporter will go into some of the reasons Bracken won it all.

Turnover Ratio: The Warriors won the turnover battle in every game but one last season. Bracken intercepted 12 passes and threw five. The plus seven ratio helped BCS but that stat alone did not catapult the team to the championship.

Bracken Christian won the fumble stat overwhelmingly—28 to 8, or a plus 20. The opposition fumbled 42 times all together also helping Bracken hold the team without a first down.

Coaches Corner: Lloyd Fields-Bracken

Bracken Christian Warriors have a lot of work in front of them. The good thing about the upcoming season would be the view before the campaign starts.

The Warriors are looking at all of Division I football teams while being on top of the mountain. The view is great, but when the season gets going the team will be embarking on the 2011 Mountain and last year will be a memory.

“We had a veterans football team last year,” Head Coach Lloyd Fields said. “This year we have a lot of question and have to rebuild our defense.”

Eli Achilles is Stepping Up

The Bracken Christian Warriors will start the year looking a little different. Junior Eli Achilles started his career in the safety position and now with the loss of Joe Lonigro, Achilles will be bringing his 207 tackles up to the linebacker spot.

The progression of the young man has been significant. Eli Achilles started his freshman year, 5’10” and 140 pounds. Achilles now has a much bigger frame, 6’2” and 166 pounds.

Eli trails only Grant Granato, who graduated last year, by 17 tackles to take over first place in that category. Achilles also leads the team with 12 interceptions for his career.

BCS Wins State

BCS Depth Charges Hit Target Say GoodKnight to Covenant, 52-38

The Bracken Christian Warriors climbed a steep mountain in just five years to the pinnacle of TAPPS Division 1 football championship. The Warriors proved their worth in defeating Dallas Covenant Knights last Saturday in Moody, Texas.

The Championship game in Six-Man Division 1 has been dominated by schools in North Texas for the last six years. The Championship game has not had a south team play since the 2003 season, when Austin Regents ended their three year reign with three championships in a row.

Enter a team that many pundits said could not win the game because their was no depth on the roster. The team had one or two players at the most and that would not carry the Warriors to the trophy room. I don’t know what those pundits were smoking….but I do know that smoking is not allowed in the stadium, meaning they had not seen BCS play this year.
