Two more Canyon Lake athletes have taken pen in hand and signed on for  higher education and a chance to continue their dream of playing baseball.

Travis Walker and Michael Brady sat at the table with their parents looking on in a cold Hawk Gym last Thursday morning.

It was said the gym was cold to get Walker acclimated to where he will be playing next year.

Crown College will be his new home and that College is in St. Bonifacius, Minnesota.

Located about 45 minutes west of Minneapolis-St. Paul area.

How about going east to San Marcos, get on I-35 and head north for about 1,045 miles. A long way from home to play for Crown College Storm baseball team.

Brady will be going the Junior College road for about 265 miles to Angelina Junior College in Lufkin, Texas.

Both players have had very successful careers for the Hawks as has been chronicled on this site these past few months and years.

Coach Trent Dunavant commented before the signing on both players.

“I have had the honor to coach Travis for four years,” Coach Dunavant started.

The ReSporter Needs its Ads to Keep ADding Up!!

Saturday, May 11th, 2013

The ReSporter is now in its fourth year of covering Canyon Lake and Bracken Christian schools. The ReSporter has just finished it’s 1,043rd article and has also had 62,039 visits and 162,238 pages read as of February 5, 2014 stats.

As you know, this site is free for those who would like to frequent these pages after a sporting event. The ReSporter would like to introduce you to a new ‘Ad’ that was added about 10 days ago.

First off, do know that many of the advertisers on this site services The ReSporter’s household and there is a great deal of comfort in knowing that these Companies and people would treat you as well as I am treated by their services.

The ReSporter needs the audience that relies on this coverage to help out by telling these companies/people that you saw their ‘Ad’ on this site.

That way The ReSporter can keep up this coverage as the fall season looms right around the corner.

The money that is raised through our Advertisers goes to gas money, cost for maintenance for this site, and hopefully enough to put away for just cost of living increases.

If this is not realized, then there is a chance that The ReSporter might close shop before the start of next school year.

Just making it known that letting the Advertisers know that they are seen on this site will certainly help with getting, by word of mouth, other companies to also think about advertising with The ReSporter.

Food That Might Need a Firefighter

Jerry Besselman has been a face that many fans have seen at any Hawk Sporting event that would involve refreshing your tastes.

The ReSporter went on a search to find someone that might have been to more games and events that wasn’t a player or Coach. Besselman fit that bill as the man behind the counter where you will find liquids or food to keep that Hawk fan strong enough to end the game and yelling on their Hawk team flavor of that event.

The ReSporter had an opportunity to get with Besselman at the end of a Hawk Softball game for a formal introduction to you the fan.

The ReSporter: Hey Jerry are you having fun?

Jerry Besselman: “Yes, I get to be around students and they all know my name.”

The ReSporter: Do they know you as Jerry or Besselman?

Jerry Besselman: “There was a time when Coach Nicole Creek needed to get a hold of me to change a time of a game or something like that and she was wanting to look up my phone number. She could not find me because she knew me by my first name. So yes, I’m thinking most of the students and teachers just know me by my first name.”

Nightmare Loss to Navarro, 15-1

Saturday, April 27th, 2013

Travis Walker in game with El Paso Parkland earlier this year.

By the time their Moms got to their CL sons the nightmare was over and all the Hawks had to show for this game was a relieved look on their face as this season came to a close.

The Hawks carried this game to that last inning when a year of troubles finally released all that bad karma and Navarro had taken a close game and turned into a nightmarish 13 run inning and a final score of, 15-1.

How about two grand slams in that seventh inning and a batting order that batted around two times.

 Tale of the 7th Inning
 Hit Batters: 2
 Singles: 5
 Doubles: 3
 Home Runs: 2
 Walks: 3

What will make you shake your head is that CL had controlled this game and had a chance in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the lead when the Hawks loaded the bases with no outs.

That nightmare started with that inning as Canyon Lake had one out on a squeeze play that went awry. Another potential score that was thrown out at the plate after another single.

Navarro took that defensive momentum and went crazy from the plate as Travis Walker finally ran out of gas and what fuel that was still in the tank blew up from a spark off the bats of the Navarro Panthers looking to clinch a spot for the playoffs.

That was certainly accomplished with those 13 runs and now Fredericksburg will go home without a spot in the post season as they needed a Navarro loss for a chance to play on.

Walker had another good pitching game save that last inning as he kept those Panthers guessing with his ‘eefus’ or Big Cheese pitch for much of the evening.

Hawks Shut-Out Navarro, 3-0 Behind Ryan Hutcheson’s Pitching

Thursday, April 25th, 2013

Outfielder Cody Powell

Canyon Lake became Fredericksburg’s best friend as the Hawks knocked off Navarro with the pitching of a Ryan Hutcheson, five hit shut out, 3-0.

Fredericksburg needs Navarro to lose to give them a chance to finish third in district play and be awarded a spot in the post-season.

CL pulled out a masterful 80 pitch outing from Hutcheson as he evened his record at 4 and also threw strikes and giving only one Panther a free ride to first.

“Hutcheson was able to get all three pitches over for strikes, his fastball, curveball and knuckle ball,” Senior Catcher Brady said. “He kept the Panther hitters off balance for the whole game.”

Hutcheson’s battery mate also helped the teams cause by raising his batting average to .411 for the season with a double, run, and rbi.

Cody Powell also scored two of the runs while Corey Shedrock contributed a double for Canyon Lake.

Hawks Finish UP in Win over Wimberley, 9-7

Saturday, April 20th, 2013

Canyon Lake JV beat Wimberley for the fourth time this season as they take 3rd Place in District

Kyle Krohn and Jonathan McGuire celebrating after another won over Wimberley

27-3A, 9-7.

In a phrase, Canyon Lake Owns the Wimberley Texans this season as this game gave the Hawks their fourth win over their friends from the north.

CL gift wrapped six errors and five walks and still did more little things right which helped in giving an edge to the Hawks.

More enthusiasm seemed to be a common theme among the players and coaches.

“After Thursday’s games they were geared up today,” Head JV Coach Brian Owens said. “Yes, we had a few errors, but we were ready to rock when they got off the bus.”

“They (Hawks baseball team) figured it out on Thursday and I’m not a chanting Coach, but when they used that to get fired up then I will just let them go at it…when they got off the bus they wanted to play with enthusiasm.”

The break out inning happened in the fourth with four runs and giving CL a lead that would not be taken for the rest of this windy but beautiful day.

Gordon McCleary reached on an error to start off that inning and then was followed by a single from Nick Kissell.

With two batters on and one out, Hayden Lee hit a line drive through the infield and started the flood gates for Canyon Lake.

Hawks Lose Series to Boerne, 7-1

Saturday, April 20th, 2013

Senior Catcher Michael Brady

Canyon Lake lost their series to Boerne after a hard fought game Friday night, 7-1.

The Hawks out hit the Greyhounds but they could not bunch enough hits together to mount many threats.

Another good outing from pitcher Ryan Hutcheson as he held this very potent offense to just six hits.

J. J. Nance continues to climb up with his batting average after collecting two of CL’s hits.

Daniel Reed also got back into action and responded with a hit and the Hawks lone run.

“We played awesome defense,” Head Coach Trent Dunavant started. “We could not string hits together and Boerne had hits that were doubles, triples and a deep home run.”

Boerne has had a dominating baseball team this season with a 12-0 record in district play.

Look at the Greyhounds games with District 27-3A teams when you add runs from their three game series.

If you add runs scored for those games, then you would have the scores shown below from those composite scores.

 Bandera 34-1
 Fredericksburg 33-3
 Navarro 28-6
 Canyon Lake 11-3
 Wimberley* 10-4 (1 game)

*Will finish series with Wimberley next week.

Thursday, April 18th, 2013

Canyon Lake JV Baseball team split their two games on Thursday for the opening day of District 27-3A Tournament.

In the first game CLJV beat Bandera and then faced Boerne in a loss to a team that seems to have the Hawk’s number this season.

Anytime you have as many errors as you have hits will tell you that this might not be a good result.

Canyon Lake will now face one of the three teams that met in Boerne for the other three team pod.

Saturday at 12 Noon will be the start time as the Hawks will play for 3rd place finish in district play in Boerne.

Jonathan McGuire led CLJV with two hits while Hayden Dubois and Austin Headrick scored the only runs of this contest in that first inning.

Hawks JV Baseball Split Games with Navarro

Wednesday, April 17th, 2013

Canyon Lake JV baseball team split their games with Navarro Panthers last Monday night at the

JV Coach Brian Owens with Post Game Talk

Hawk Diamond. Winning the first game 7-4 and coming out on the short end 13-8 in the nightcap.

The Hawks dug themselves in a hole in both games, but the second game their hole was much deeper than a Hawk could climb (or fly) out of.

“We started both games the same in making the same mistakes over and over,” Head JV Coach Brian Owens said. “I challenged them on communicating, but for the most part I was pleased with our pitchers.”

Canyon Lake did have some good pitching in that first game as Nick Kissell had a decent outing with Gordon McCleary closing out this contest.

The Hawks did have a little bit of fireworks as Austin Headrick hit a two run home run in the bottom of that fourth inning giving Canyon Lake their lead back after allowing the tying runs in the top of that same inning.
