Hawks Fall out of Nest in Loss to Navarro, 10-7

Canyon Lake’s little mistakes become Big mistakes in the loss to Navarro, 10-7 last

Pitcher Logan Felch

Tuesday night on the road.

There were several positive aspects from the plate as Senior Dylan Adams and Junior Kyler Huff each registered three hits a piece.

Also, all the players but one had a hit in the game which can be a confidence builder.

Did we say that there was only one error?

The Hawks are still young and the on the job training can be painful many times…but in this game the pitching just could not finish the job and that one error was a big error allowing two runners to score.

Canyon Lake Random Baseball Thoughts

Monday, April 16th, 2012

Canyon Lake is now in the twilight of the 2011-12 season and a little more

time will make a lot of difference in what you are seeing now and what might be unveiled next season.

A young CL Baseball team continues to learn the game against older and more experienced teams. What fans need to notice in this sport is that the improvement might not be on the scoreboard, but rather between the ears.

The continued reps for Freshman, Sophomores and Juniors, is what has a chance of turning around the last two campaigns and having another chance for the playoffs.

There are four solid Juniors playing that can hopefully mold a group of underclassman before the first pitch is thrown next season.

Travis Walker is the leader in almost every statistical category for Canyon Lake. It seems he has been a part of the team since his eighth grade year.

Walker is a very solid fielder, and has been primarily at first base this year. Walker also has played behind the plate, third base, and pitcher for the Hawks. He has hovered around the .400 batting average most of this season.

The Hawks could only scratch two runs across the plate as Canyon Lake will try to

get back on the winning track next week, after losing to Fredericksburg, 7-2 last Friday night at the Hawk diamond.

“We are trying to get across to the team that these games we are working to make a run,” Head Coach Trent Dunavant said. “We have players playing out of position and we are needing to eliminate our errors and improve our mental game.”

You have heard the story before, but with one Senior on the team, Canyon Lake keeps learning on the fly and the remembrance of the second year of competition.

“We got to know we can’t quit,” Junior Logan Felch said. “We love the game and we have to keep playing it right and going to reward us.”

“I notice more experience and in the long run it is going to help us,” as Felch commented on the youth of this team.

Canyon Lake Varsity would be a Junior Varsity on other teams and that is what has to be hard on fans and Coaches alike.

The Hawks scratched across one run in the third inning staking a short lived lead against the home team.

J.J. Nance led off the inning with a base hit and was brought in by the hot hitting Travis Walker.

Canyon Lake has finally gotten the taste of winning and the savoring might not be

over as District 26-3A starts to rev into high gear. The Hawks beat the Panthers from Navarro, 6-1 with some outstanding pitching from Logan Felch last Wednesday night.

Felch was the hard luck pitcher against Bandera in the district opener when he gave up one run in the loss.

In the Navarro game, Felch gave up four hits and struck out 10 Panthers while just walking one batter. Pretty impressive game from the mound.

“This game makes us feel a lot better in getting our first district win,” Felch pitched in. “Things are starting to row for us…this team has got a little more fight and has more of a positive attitude this year.”

The Hawk Defense was another reason for the ease in which the game transpired.

“That is a good feeling,” Felch commented on how well the defense played tonight.

team compete you will realize that it is just a matter of time for CL to break into the win column and start competing for a playoff spot.

Fredericksburg started with a bang, scoring four runs in the first inning that was highlighted by a three run homerun off the bat of Jacob Smith. The inning was elongated by an error, having the Hawks continuing on the abnormal amount of runs scored with two outs.

“We keep grasping at straws because we have so many youth issues,” Head Coach Trent Dunavant lead off. “We hit the ball better, we spent two days on it.”

Canyon Lake responded in the bottom of the first when Freshman Garrett Winters drew a one out walk, Travis Walker singled scoring Winters after advancing on an error earlier when Eckert tried to catch Winters off of first base.

Fredericksburg scored another unearned run in the top of the second after two outs, when Daniel Camarillo misplayed a ball in center field and the Billies’ runner scored on a passed ball later that inning.

Baseball: CL asks for Two Out Innings, Lose to Wimberley, 7-1

Wednesday, March 14th, 2012

Every run scored by Wimberley was after two outs and helped put Canyon Lake in a hole, but the Hawks would be advised to ask the District Office if they can play the rest of their District games with two out innings.

Third Baseman Dylan Adams

Wimberley used their clutch hitting to score a victory over the Hawks last Tuesday during a Spring Break week.

Canyon Lake had a chance to score the first run in the third inning, when Dylan Adams led off with a single through the gap. A sacrifice hit by Daniel Camarillo and a passed ball had Adams looking right down the third base line towards home.

With two outs, batter Travis Walker hit the ball lake a laser towards Adams who did a break dance routine dodging the ball.

CL Hawk’s Freeze in Two Losses at Llano Tourney

Friday, March 9th, 2012

Canyon Lake had the two games that were as different as the weather.

Junior Kyler Huff

Junior Kyler Huff

The first game was pleasant temperature wise and then by the start of the second game the temperature was 30 degrees colder and of course a wind that made it feel colder.

Errors were the culprit in both games as St. Michaels runs were all unearned in the middle part of the contest. As the Hawks lost their three run lead and finished the game coming within one run of tying the score.

In the second game, Taylor jumped out to a five run lead in the first two innings when Canyon Lake started inching back to within striking distance.

A three run fifth inning put a time limit loss on the belt for the Hawks as the warmth of the bus I’m sure looked to be a welcome site for the Polar Bears.
