Saturday, March 19th, 2011

coachOwensThe baseball team this year has gone back in time…..remember two years ago, when the CL teams oldest players were juniors?

Well, this season the baseball team we have, has gone back two years for both the Varsity and JV. Yes, the varsity does have some seniors playing, but the bulk of the players are sophomores on the varsity team.

Now, you know the problem that faces the Junior Varsity team this season. On many teams the sophomores would be playing, but that group of guys now the word freshman outside their name instead. (more…)

CL Hawks Fly over the Fence in Wimberley Win, 5-3

Saturday, March 19th, 2011

031811-191110-logan-felchThe Hawks flew over the fence with a homerun ball off the bat of Logan Felch scoring Quinn Pike and sending the Wimberley Texans home for the long weekend.

Canyon Lake had fought from behind until the lead was reclaimed in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Daniel Camarillo laced his third hit of the evening knocking in the go ahead run (at the time) for a 3-2 lead.

“I have a good mind set of going up swinging,” sophomore Camarillo said. “This game gives us a good spirit so we can make this a habit.” (more…)

Baseball: CLHS loses first District game, 4-1

Friday, March 11th, 2011

The Hawks started the district on the short end last Tuesday night when they lost to the Bandera Bulldogs after their bats went silent.

The Bulldogs pitcher struck out 11 Hawks in the game snuffing out any rallies that the Hawks might have started.

Errors were also a bug-a-do, when a routine grounder made it to the outfield scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Of the four runs scored by the visitors only one of the runs was earned. (more…)

Baseball: The Battle of the Alamo is Finished

Monday, March 7th, 2011

030411-145620-zach-jenkinsThe Canyon Lake Hawks lost their seventh game in a row last Friday night at the Hawks diamond against 5A foe San Antonio Reagan Rattlers, 9-5.

The Alamo and Texas Independence was talked about in our last article, but the similarities continue in a season that has had the Hawks facing teams that have over 30 players on the bench. Compare that to the Hawks who have brought many of their players up from the Junior Varsity just to field enough players. (more…)

Canyon Lake Baseball Loses at the Alamo

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

030111-221905-The Hawks basically have two seasons for baseball. The games that are being played now and then the District games that will start next week with the first game against Bandera.

The reason this is important revolves around the Hawks playing teams that are in the 4A classification and with that the team feels like the Texans at the Alamo. (more…)

Friday, February 25th, 2011

022211-215132-jeff-naborsThe Hawks started the season with a loss to the Marble Falls Mustangs last Tuesday night at the Hawk diamond, losing 13-12.

The Hawks lost there first game last year to the same team, but last year the game was a rout and this season the Hawks almost pulled the upset.

Canyon Lake has a very young team this year. In fact, you could make a case that the Varsity could qualify as a Jr. Varsity team. (more…)

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

The Canyon Lake Baseball team is getting ready to pitch-off their season next Tuesday night against Marble Falls.

Before that happens the team has played two scrimmages and are in the process of finding which players they can go into battle with.

One thing is certain. The Hawks will be a young team.

“We are playing a lot of Sophomores,” Coach Trent Dunavant said. “We had the second base, center field, catcher, pitcher, and right field as sophomores at some time in the game tonight.” (more…)
