CL Baseball: “Very Frustrating”

Monday, April 25th, 2011

The Canyon Lake Hawks have been in a funk the past few weeks and now is the time to draw the line in the sand.

You remember the scene in The Alamo, when Colonel Travis drew a line in the sand to find out who would stay and fight.

The Hawks have found themselves at the end of the season grasping for something to tide them over as they wait for reinforcements. (more…)

Behind the ‘Mike’: Entertainment Galore

Monday, April 25th, 2011

mikeComing to a Canyon Lake baseball game is better than going to the movies. It is entertainment galore, in the Press Box you will get more than just a player’s name.

Mike Nelson is finishing another year behind the ‘mike’ and the job is not just someone telling you who is coming to the plate.

Nelson puts hours of work into his craft. The foul ball hitting glass? Mike has a certain time frame on when the button is punched and the audience is hearing the glass breaking. (more…)

With only 10 players suited up for the game against Fredericksburg, the Hawks almost pulled out the win.

Canyon Lake was cruising with a 5-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning when the wheels came off the wagon. (more…)

Baseball Greyhounds Race by Hawks, 11-1

Monday, April 4th, 2011

Canyon Lake could not get out of the ‘canyon’ they dug themselves into after allowing six runs in the first inning against Boerne last Friday night at the Hawk diamond.

The strike zone was missing in action at the start of the game and the Hawks could not climb out, as they lost in a shortened game because of the 10 run rule.

“The difference in the last two games was jumping out to a four run lead against Navarro and giving up a six runs in the first inning to Boerne,” Head Coach Trent Dunavant said. (more…)

The Hawks gave Jenkins some breathing room jumping out to a four run lead before he had to take the mound.

Canyon Lake had three extra base hits in the first inning. Daulton Winters tripled, followed with a double from Brandon Felts, and then Kyler Huff sending the ball over the fence with his at bat. (more…)

Canyon Lake’s ‘JV’ Team wins first two games in Baseball

Saturday, March 19th, 2011

coachOwensThe baseball team this year has gone back in time…..remember two years ago, when the CL teams oldest players were juniors?

Well, this season the baseball team we have, has gone back two years for both the Varsity and JV. Yes, the varsity does have some seniors playing, but the bulk of the players are sophomores on the varsity team.

Now, you know the problem that faces the Junior Varsity team this season. On many teams the sophomores would be playing, but that group of guys now the word freshman outside their name instead. (more…)

031811-191110-logan-felchThe Hawks flew over the fence with a homerun ball off the bat of Logan Felch scoring Quinn Pike and sending the Wimberley Texans home for the long weekend.

Canyon Lake had fought from behind until the lead was reclaimed in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Daniel Camarillo laced his third hit of the evening knocking in the go ahead run (at the time) for a 3-2 lead.

“I have a good mind set of going up swinging,” sophomore Camarillo said. “This game gives us a good spirit so we can make this a habit.” (more…)
