Coaches Corner: With Lloyd Fields

Friday, November 2nd, 2012

The ReSporter: What are you thinking about with your opponent

Head Coach Lloyd Fields

this Saturday?

Coach Fields: “They (Houston Emery-Weiner) are one of the best 4 and 4 teams I’ve seen, they could have a better record.”

The ReSporter: What will be your plan of attack for this contest?

Coach Fields: “We are going to look at different kids in carrying the ball…probably run our tight offense that is looking pretty good, it is very functional.”

The ReSporter: What are you looking for in that type of offense?

Final Coaches Corner with Volleyball’s Nicole Creek

Thursday, October 25th, 2012

The Resporter: Disappointing year for the Team, what

Head Volleyball Coach Nicole Creek

goals were reached during this season for these girls?

Coach Creek: “We were successful early on with some wins at tournaments, before this season we never brought home any hardware from tourneys.”

The ReSporter: Tell us about your Seniors and how they impacted your team?

Coach Creek: “Seniors worked hard all year. They came together in the Summer and worked with me to create some of the expectations we had for all the teams this season. They were instrumental in getting the girls involved in Summer League and there almost every week. They were a great group of girls to work with and for the younger girls to look up to.”

The ReSporter: The ReSporter noticed that this group of girls did more during the off/season than pervious classes, can you give us an idea of what impact that had on your season?

Coach Creek: “I think the more they stay involved the better off we will be as a group and I think it showed this year. Despite us not going to the playoffs we still competed with everyone in a very tough district. This was a direct result of their efforts in the off season.”

Coaches Corner: Bracken’s Lloyd Fields

Thursday, October 25th, 2012

The ReSporter: Hey Coach let us know how Bracken Football is

Head Coach Lloyd Fields

doing this week.

Coach Fields: “We have had a low key week of practice, CASA does have 18 kids out this year, but we want to try and end this game by half time.”

The ReSporter: What is your focus?

Coach Fields: “Still adjusting our defense, right now we have everyone going full speed and are more healthy than we have been all year.”

The ReSporter: Your achilles heel this year seems to be in your Bonus kick for Special Teams, what are you doing in this part of your game?

Coach Fields: “We have quit trying to kick for our extra point. Now we are going for one point after every touchdown. Realistically we would like to be successful on 75% of those tries.”

The ReSporter: How should that affect your games?

CL it is finally time to face up to The Bully (Wimberley).

Wednesday, October 24th, 2012

Special Time for Special Team

Wimberley week will always be a little different than other schools for Canyon Lake.

Why? Distance, The ReSporter would only travel an extra five miles in going to Wimberley high school versus Hawk Country.

Wimberley has also taken Canyon Lake’s lunch money the past four years, leaving the Hawks without anything to eat for lunch. (They are our bully…)

Could this be the year for Canyon Lake to kick sand into the Texans face? Possibly, now all CL needs to find out is if Wimberley will come back and does CL have the fortitude to stand up to Wimberley’s advances and land some punches.

“Wimberley is the third game of our five round heavy weight fight,” Head Coach Charley Drum said. “The stakes get higher with each game.”

Well, when schedules were drawn up for this two year alignment, District 27-3A moved games around and so this year it so happens to be a couple of 2-0 teams playing.

Not odd for Wimberley to be undefeated in district, but this will be just the first time CL has had a 2-0 district record when facing the Texans. The Hawks have faced Wimberley four out of five years with an unblemished mark going into a game with our ‘Devil’s Backbone’ counterpart.

Drum Beat: Coach Charley Drum

Thursday, October 18th, 2012

The ReSporter: You are facing a team this week that lost a player that was a do everything type of player, how do you prepare in a situation like that?

Coach Drum: “They (Bandera) has had an extra week to prepare, they might be unpredictable but they still need the win to still have a chance in the district race.”

The ReSporter: Tell us what you thought about getting back on the winning side of a game this past week?

Coach Drum: “We did some personel changes and asked some Seniors to step it up. We were like a dog backed into the corner and we just needed to get that confidence back.”

The ReSporter: Based on all those learning experiences this team had to start this season, did you see any of those learned lessons in the game last week?

Coaches Corner: Bracken’s Lloyd Fields

Thursday, October 18th, 2012

The ReSporter: How are you doing?

Head Coach Lloyd Fields

Coach Fields: “Slightly above average and mellow, actually very mellow.”

The ReSporter: Tell us how your team is doing in preparation for this week’s game?

Coach Fields: “This is probably the best Winston team we have played…We are on the down hill slide for the season.”

The ReSporter: How are your the players doing as they are in the second half of this season?

Coach Fields: “When it (season) is over, it is over and you don’t get another chance, especially for our three seniors. Seniors have the shortest year because there is no more Spring practice and years left to play.”

The ReSporter: How will the end of this season play with just one more home game and now being on a four game road streak?

Coach Fields: “We will even play our first playoff game on the road this season. The only teams that get a home game for the first round is the district champion. So we will be at a neutral site when the playoff season starts. I like playing on the road because there are less distractions for the players.”

Coaches Corner: Bracken’s Lloyd Fields

Friday, October 5th, 2012

The ReSporter: How has your team handled their first loss of the

Head Coach Lloyd Fields

season this week?

Coach Fields: “We lost our first game during the regular season since 2009 and these players are very workmanlike and don’t show a lot of emotion, they understand what we need to do and will display that on the field.”

The ReSporter: How do you handle the rest of this season as District play starts in earnest?

Coach Fields: “We are real happy with our offense, but we will be making some adjustments in our games coming up. We have moved Davis Scott from running back to receiver to help replace losing Arnold Adame. We had lost our vertical game with Adame’s loss and that will help replace that hole. Scott is also faster than Arnold was, but Arnold had more size.
Eli (Achilles) will be moving to running back and Sam Hilgendorf will be our quarterback. Preston Koch will stay as our power back.”

Coaches Corner: Head Coach Lloyd Fields

Thursday, September 27th, 2012

The ReSporter:Coach Fields what are you thinking as you approach the

Head Coach Lloyd Fields

biggest game in this regular season?

Coach Fields: “Geneva and Bracken are the only two remaining undefeated schools left in Division I. They are big, strong, and deep. They have two quarterbacks and one of the best receivers I have seen. They are more physical than Sugar Land Logos.”

The ReSporter: I can see by your opening statement that you have been spending some quality time studying for this team. Give us an idea of another team that might help novices like me to understand what is in store for BCS?

Coach Fields: “Abilene Christian (the team that beat BCS last season in the Semis), their defense is very similar and they run a lot of the same techniques.”

The ReSporter: Does their offense remind you of Abilene Christian?

The Drum Beat with Coach Drum

Wednesday, September 26th, 2012

The ReSporter: Hey Coach Drum, the weather forecast might be calling for rain this Friday.

Head Coach Charley Drum

How will this affect the game if at all?

Coach Drum: “It should not alter our game plan, last week Burnet took away our running game and we switched to passing and we did fine.”

The ReSporter: La Grange has a strong running game, does that play to our strength defensively?

Coach Drum: “I really don’t know what our strength is right now. Yes and no, in the past couple of games we had shut down our opponent’s rushing game, but last week Burnet opened up the field and we had a hard time stopping either one, they (Burnet) took advantage of us in open space.”

The ReSporter: How has your practices been going in

Head Coach Lloyd Fields

preparation to Saturday’s game?

Coach Fields: “We did some tune up at camp this week, but this type of week is not conducive for practice.”

The ReSporter: So how did the players look for that limited time?

Coach Fields: “We looked halfway decent…our conditioning has been hurt, but we are as healthy as we can be.”

The ReSporter: Do you use games like this to work on your depth?

Coach Fields: “Bracken only has 11 players on the team right now, so depth just want happen. We do have a second offense, but that is just moving players to different positions. Brenham Christian only has nine players.”
