Hawk Count Down with # 7th: CL Hawks 42 Austin Akins 20
Wednesday, May 17th, 2017Next up for this year’s Top Ten was how well CL’s Football game with Austin Akins.
Canyon Lake had started the year strong but suffered two losses in a row and not knowing what a 6A team would bring to the table had some concerns for coaches and fans.
Akins was not a formidable team but drawing from many more students might pose a problem before games started in district play next up.
Top Ten Hawk Games: #9 CL Hawks 40 Blanco 07
Thursday, May 11th, 2017Number 9 for our countdown happened in Blanco when the Hawk Football team got a Panther off their back when they stopped a losing streak to our neighbors to the tune of, 40-7.
This game was delayed over an hour as there was a fierce lightning storm and the two combatants retreated to their locker room (CL gathered in their Hawk School Bus).
CL Hawks Football All-District for 2016 Season Announced
Sunday, January 29th, 2017Canyon Lake’s Football team had their awards banquet last Thursday and announced the all-district and other accolades for a team that finished the highest in district since the school started in 2008 season.
That 2nd Place finish has left some unfinished business for Canyon Lake when next ye
ar starts in August.
Canyon Lake did have young man who excelled and those long awaited mentions are below.
A final record of 7-4 had the Hawks needing one more win to match the best campaign in CL’s history when the 2011 team had an 8-2 final tally.
Heath McDonough made All-District on offense as well as defensive side of the ball. You could also add a decent punt return for a touchdown on special teams but not good enough for a district mention on that front.

Hawks Lose Traction in 2nd Half in Loss to Liberty Hill, 38-17
Friday, November 11th, 2016Canyon Lake was a no show during the second half as Liberty Hill took control of this game winning, 38-17 and advancing to the next round.
“We made too many mistakes and good teams will capitalize on that,” Head Coach Charley Drum said. “We had some missed tackles and when you get into the playoffs, every play is important.”
The first half had the Hawks leading in every statistical component, but when the curtain was raised to start the second stanza, CL was stuck in neutral. The Hawks were able to garner just 63 total yards during this period of the game as LH started hitting their stride gaining 212 rushing yards allowing the home team to run out the clock once their lead was established.
