Growing pains is what the Hawk fans have gone through many times in their life…usually it comes more at a young age…..well that is where Canyon Lake’s Football team finds themselves as this season started against a well established football school.

Hawks will work on improving as this season morphs into the 2nd week when most teams improve. Go Lake!
Canyon Lake’s Sub-Varsity started their season on the short side after Wimberley took care of business with a, 36-0 Freshman and a 44-0 Junior Varsity conquest on Thursday night at the Hawk Nest.
The Lake’s Freshman squad had just converted a 3rd and needing 7 yards to continue their opening snaps in this battle when QB Damon Garcia found receiver Archer Miller with a catch and run for a 19 yard play that put CLFr right at the midfield stripe.
That next play turned the tide in a hurry when the Texan’s defense smothered Garcia on his throw and the ball went up into the air for a 43 yard interception return and score with 6:15 into that first quarter.
The snowball that started with that INT would resemble an avalanche as these Hawks were looking at a 22 point deficit going into the 2nd stanza.
Canyon Lake’s best drive followed using 9 plays before a stop trying to convert a 4th down at the Texan’s 32 yard line.
In the second half, CL Freshman, forced a turnover and forced a punt that ended giving up just one score during that 2nd half of play.
Now the learning will begin with rebound game at Austin Crockett next Thursday starting at 5:00pm.

=====================================
Canyon Lake’s Junior Varsity had a similar outcome with a decent start that ended with another avalanche set-back.
CL Defense started their contest stopping the Texans on the Hawks 25 yard line on downs.
The Hawk Offense surrendered a safety against a seasoned defense that had CLJV forcing a 3 down and punt sequence that resulted in that same 0-2 score entering the 2nd quarter.
This Wimberley snowball happened during that 2nd quarter as the Home team gave up 3 touchdowns and a, 30-0 halftime break.
CLJV was only able to garner one 2nd half first down and with positive yardage coming at a premium.
Ryder Smith did uncork a nifty 51 yard punt which helped switch field position but this unrelenting Wimberley team bottled up any hope of allowing the Hawks staging a comeback.
Another CL team that will be going to school this week with another chance to have a better result next week at Austin Crockett High School and a Thursday kick-off after the Freshman squad’s game is in the books.
