Lady Hawks Top 3 and All-Time Basketball Records
Sunday, January 10th, 2016Lady Hawks Take Care of Cuero, 51-37
Saturday, January 9th, 2016Canyon Lake Girls won a pivotal game with Cuero on Friday helping give the Hawks a chance in making some noise as their district season continues.
The win has CL tied for 4th with Gonzales and that close loss to Navarro certainly planted a seed of confidence.
Emma Gray finished this night scoring 20 points as the Hawks also got some solid performances from many other players.
Sarah Russell had 2 three pointers and finished with 8 points followed by 6 points from Mia Riali and Skylar Hurst.
“We wanted to come out and keep executing our offense,” Junior Russell said.
Lady Hawks Scare 1st Place Navarro, 39-43
Wednesday, January 6th, 2016Canyon Lake Lady Hawks was this close (as you put your index finger with a small space between your thumb), as the upstart never say die Hawks took first place Navarro to the wire, 43-39.
“I am really proud of this team,” Head Coach Mary-Beth Gallagher stated. “This team spent practice these last few days with hard work and that almost helped them pull off an upset.”
The Hawks had not regained their mojo since the taking the Christmas break but if this game is any indication for things to come then this could be a good season in district play.
Hawks Play at Navarro this Tuesday
Monday, January 4th, 2016Canyon Lake will be traveling to Navarro this Tuesday as the district schedule is getting started during the first round of games.
The Hawk Ladies will have a tough game as they lost their first district game last Saturday against Gonzales.
The Lady Panthers are undefeated in district so far sporting a 3-0 record with a 16-7 season.
This will be a tough game to turn the table for Canyon Lake as they have been suffering on the offensive side of the court in points as that has become a precious commodity during the past few games.
CL had several players that were not available for their tournament and last week’s game with Gonzales.
That alone should make Canyon Lake more competitive for Tuesday’s contest.
Lady Hawks Take on Gonzales, Standings, Top Three & All-Time
Friday, January 1st, 2016
Canyon Lake Lady Hawks started their District 26-4A season with a win over Yoakum, 38-26 before the Christmas Break and will now see if they can improve on that record when Gonzales comes to town this Saturday.
CL’s defense was the key in this win as the Hawks had a season best 20 steals as Alexa Ramos coming within just 2 steal in reaching double figures.

Hawks Girls finish 2-3 in Canyon’s Tourney
Sunday, December 6th, 2015Canyon Lake Girls finished their Tournament in New Braunfels Canyon High School with a 2-3 record.
The losses were to Smithson Valley, Roosevelt, and Bridge City as SV and Roosevelt reside in the 6A classification.
In that Bridge City game, both teams had their defense going strong as the gym was cold with the frigid shooting percentages.
The Hawks shot 24% from the floor in that game as CL found it hard to get any momentum going.
As bad as CL’s shooting got, the Hawks found themselves just down, 20-18 going into the final stanza of this contest.
Lady Hawks Color Bandera Gray, 49-32
Wednesday, December 2nd, 2015Canyon Lake won their first home game over Bandera on Tuesday night, 49-32.
“It was nice to get a win on our first home game,” Head Coach Mary Beth Gallagher said. “We had great fan support and the atmosphere was fun and exciting…we played well as a team and had a good solid defensive effort.”
The Hawks had two players reach double figures in scoring, as Sarah Russell chipped in 11 points while Emma Gray had a 21 point game coupled with 16 rebounds.
Gray did everything but shoot a 3 pointer in this win as she also had a team high 8 assists and 2 blocks.
Those 8 assists would usually be a team total or more on many nights as Gray dominated the inside with her play on both ends of the floor.
CL Lady Hawks Beat Somerset for First Win, 41-28
Tuesday, November 24th, 2015The Lady Hawks were able to get their first win of the season against Somerset on Monday with a 41-28 victory last Monday.
“Well today was a good combination of solid defense and good transition ball,” Head Basketball Coach Mary Beth Gallagher said. “We did a good job of controlling the boards and our height finally came in handy.”
CL finished with 37 rebounds with 13 on the offensive side of the court. Those offensive boards help in making that low shooting percentage will help in getting that turkey to go down better this Thanksgiving.
“We are starting to get back to our gritty defense,” Coach Gallagher admonished. “We do show signs of improvement on our basketball IQ.”
CL Hawks Start Slow in Loss to Lehman, 37-27
Thursday, November 12th, 2015Canyon Lake started their basketball campaign with a competitive game with Lehman as the Hawks played an even game after a slow start, 37-27.
“We changed our defense after seeing their star player taking advantage of our match-ups,” Head Coach Mary Beth Gallagher said. “We played them much better after the start of the game and I am really pleased considering we lost by 40 points last year to this same team.”
That final score last season with Lehman was an 84-40 score and considering this team being in the 6A Classification then good points can come from a loss.
This year’s volleyball team was helped with the addition of Emma Gray and now this young lady brings a basketball skill set that should help as this season starts to mature as the height can only help.
