Head Girl’s Basketball Coach Zach Burleson
The ReSporter: Where is this team, based on where you started, to last Tuesday’s game?
Coach Burleson: “We are still trying a couple of different things defensively. So we have a lot of games over the break to try and get to where we need to be.”
The ReSporter: How do you assess this year’s district teams and who would be the teams with the highest hurdles to clear?
Coach Burleson: “It’s going to be a real tough district. Boerne and Fredericksburg are loaded. Llano returns everyone, Wimberley returns almost the whole team and Bandera is going to be a tough matchup athletically.”
The ReSporter: What is your process in regards to practice when you only have 9 players on Varsity?
Coach Burleson: “It is not easy, we have to try a get creative to foster some game like situations. We have to use our JV a lot (which helps them). Our girls are all involved in other sports and activities-so we haven’t had a lot of time as far as a full group goes.”
The ReSporter: You have hit 11 wins already…what would be a successful season win wise for this group?
Coach Burleson: “For us, we just need to focus on getting better. We just need to try to find a way to get into the playoff picture by late January and win a couple road games late. It will be difficult, but anything worth doing is.
“The ReSporter: You have mentioned on how many games these Seniors have won which has put the team over the .500 win percentage. Put those stats in perspective for the Hawk Nation.
Canyon City Grill says Go Hawks!!
Coach Burleson: “They’ve been a part of a lot of wins for sure. They are a great group to be around. Feel like I am lucky to have been able to be a part of their team. Love coaching them. I am proud of what they have accomplished but mostly how they interact with each other. That is what is most important.”
The ReSporter: What are you wanting to accomplish (not record) after the Christmas break in playing back-to-back tournaments?
Coach Burleson: “Game situations. In basketball, those breaks(Thanksgiving and Christmas) can take awhile to get over. Hopefully, with more games sandwiched in there, it will speed us up as far as getting back and going forward.”
The ReSporter: Thanks Coach and good luck as you draw nearer to district play…

Lady Hawks run their record to 11-2 after win over Natalia. Go Hawks. (photo on file by Karen Holmes)
By the time Natalia scored their last point on Tuesday night in their loss to the CL Hawks, those points would have matched what The Lake had scored in that first quarter. If you added up those next 3 quarters then it would give you the difference in this 36 point win, 48-12.

Let’s Go Hawks!!
This week will be full of Tournaments with both Freshman and Junior Varsity Boys playing in Burnet starting on Thursday.
Then on Friday the Boys and Girls Varsity will be in Marion and Johnson City respectfully into Saturday games.
The ReSporter will update the team and time of those tournaments this week. So, come back to this page on Monday or Tuesday for those updates.
CL’s Ladies suffered their first loss last Tuesday after a solid Randolph team held on for a win after a furious Hawk comeback that just fell short. Buckets were at a premium with a cold shooting night but a good defensive effort still had the Lady Hawks with a chance up unto that final buzzer.
The Lake’s Freshman and Junior Varsity will be in action in Burnet on Thursday and Saturday with some round ball action. Both teams are still getting their feet wet and seeing how this week goes will help in finding those strength and weaknesses to continue strong into the season.
Canyon Lake’s Varsity Boys will have a tip-off this Tuesday at Brooks Academy being accompanies by the Junior Varsity for this battle.
Then CL Hawks Varsity will ready themselves for a two-day Tournament in Marion and a chance to continue working on those details for improving their chemistry and consistency when district contests get going on January 9th.
Go Hawks!!
The Ladies’ Basketball Team next home game will be December 17th when Natalia comes to the Hawk Nest.
CL’s Boys will welcome Gonzales on December 10th as the pre-district games continue through the month of December.
Come out and take a break from the Christmas rush and enjoy watching the Hawks and with your support and a successful month of December.
Go Hawks!!
Chelsea Tschoepe scored a season high 24 points in win over Blanco.
Canyon Lake Ladies Basketball team continued their strong start with wins over Austin Reagan and Blanco last week. Those last two wins now has the Lady Basketball sport joining Volleyball and Football as the only Hawk sports with a .500 or better record since sports began in 2009.
