Bracken Christian Getting Ready for Second Half

Sunday, October 6th, 2013

Bracken Christian will be embarking on their second half of the season this coming Saturday and The ReSporter would like to delve into seeing just where this team is in retrospect to previous Warrior teams.

The loss to Austin Hill Country to start this season might have been a blessing in disguise for BCS this season.

The Warriors have responded with a four game winning streak and that loss helped this team to know that they had in no way would win a game just by putting on their uniform.

Austin Hill Country scored 8 points in the first quarter and that has been the last team to put points on the board this season on Bracken’s defense in that quarter.

CL Football: What do we know?

Josh DeVries having a break out year this season.

Josh DeVries having a break out year this season.

What do we know?

It is off week for Canyon Lake and this team is still looking for their first win of the season.

Are the Hawks as bad as their record?

A new offensive scheme would give you an idea that there might be some rough spots in this season. Also, this second half the campaign might also give you an idea of some better results on the gridiron.

We have learned that CL has had those little mistakes throughout this season. Whether it has been a penalty or a broken play at the wrong time, that end result has been heartache more than exuberance.

What we have also learned is Canyon Lake’s defense and special teams have cost more games than this new offense.

Freshman Girls will be the Future for Canyon Lake

Saturday, May 18th, 2013

The Hawks Freshman Girls had a good year and that is an understatement.

Sydney Reibschlager waiting to become a Sophomore

Sydney Reibschlager waiting to become a Sophomore

It has been mentioned before, but as you look at these young ladies and their accomplishments across the board you will see some excellent athletes that will also be interesting to see them continue to improve.

Examples: Abbey Andress in Tennis lost in the District Meet to a Senior and almost pulled out her game in the match. That player that beat Andress continued in the tournament and that draw of playing the champion early did not do Andress any justice.

Next year will get a resolve from Andress as you can see the passion for tennis in her face and mannerisms.

Prediction: A Freshman Lady that will be the first to win a Tennis District Title before she graduates.

Softball: Alexis Robinson was in the circle and you already know what happens with another year of experience. The Hawks started with another freshman pitcher four years ago and that turned out pretty good for Canyon Lake.

The Lady Hawks also had their first JV Softball team and that will help as girls get more playing time to hone their skills.

Football: Taking a Look back

Tuesday, May 7th, 2013

The ReSporter will be running several articles through the month of May on athletes from each sport

Canyon Lake's Zach Henshaw

from two perspectives.

1. The all-time student athlete in that sport from a performance stand point. Do note that this would be just an opinion from the ReSporter Staff.

2. A spotlight player that The ReSporter thinks will be the athlete to watch as this next year will unfold.

This series will start with Fall Sports.

Please also note that The ReSporter does not have an opportunity to see every sport and will not have an article if that is the case.

Certainly comment on the articles and give us your opinion on other students or the ones talked about in each segment.

The ReSporter will only allow positive inputs as this will be the only type of conversation needed.

Football is one sport that will have the most players to pick from, so based on that salvo, The ReSporter Staff will break up this sport with three different areas: offense, defense, and special teams.

Zach Henshaw would be the pick for this segment of players.

Henshaw will be the first to let you know that he did not get to his goals without God and the offensive line.

So, in giving accolades to Henshaw we will first start with some of those ‘Big Guys’ that helped make his rise to prominence a reality.

Offensive Line Coach Chuck Wallen was quoted a couple of years ago before Henshaw’s senior season:

“The turning point with the offensive line last year (2010 campaign) was when we challenged the team to step it up last season,” Coach Wallen elaborated. “That is when we started believing in each other and the power running game became our identity.”

Wallen continued,”Going into the season last year, we thought the passing game would be our forte….then, we found out we could knock people off the ball.”

The coaches were excited last year as the season started to approach, but this time, the coaches seem to be on a different level with their confidence with this team.

“This is the best we have ever been at this time of the year,” Coach Wallen quipped. “The kids have a grasp and have become coaches on the field. The main core that have been with us a while are real exciting to watch.”

Those words from Coach Wallen morphed into an offensive line that controlled the trenches in many games.

Volleyball: Looking at Next Year

Volleyball will be The ReSporter’s first go of previewing next year’s teams.

The Hawk Volleyball team has had two years of playoffs and this is also where The ReSporter thinks you could pick that special all-time player.

Michelle Roberts, Ashley Biering, Alyssa Drum, and Jessica Watson were all part of those first team rosters and all could very well be that one person that had the most influence for Canyon Lake’s teams.

Lady Hawks 4×400 Meter Relay has some Unfinished Business

Monday, April 22nd, 2013

The Canyon Lake foursome of Mariah Ellis, Brookelynn Helmke, Hannah

Sophomore Mariah Ellis is Thumbs Up for this years Relay team in Regions

Graves, and Amber Ramsey are carrying on a tradition for Girls Track in that they are running in the Region Meet for the third year in a row.

Each year they are at the doorstep knocking on that door for the State Meet. With times in the 4:10 area this team seems to be the closest in that line of 1600 Meter Relay teams to break that 4:10 barrier.

That will be something they will need to accomplish in order to give them a legitimate chance of being one of the last two Relay Teams standing.

Mariah Ellis will be running in her second Region Meet this week and certainly had a spectacular run at District 27-3A two weeks ago on her leg.

Ellis made up a some ground and caught several teams on that back stretch to get the baton to Amber Ramsey for her anchor leg.

“All I was thinking was I want to make Regions,” Mariah said with resolve. “When everyone is cheering for you it pushes you to go.”

Go, is what Ellis did on that night as she had the home crowd cheering her and the other group of girls for a place to keep having a chance of advancing.

Canyon Lake did not have their best time in district but they were not off much from their run in the Hawk Relays where they had the best 4×400 Relay time ever for the Hawks.
