Hawks Gold Finish off Blanco, 2-1 & Hawks Green Record now, 6-0

The Lake’s Junior Varsity Gold (6-1) beat Blanco, 2-1 in their battle last Tuesday at the Hawk Nest.

“We are working on consistency and making sure we stay focused on our side of the court,” Head Gold Coach Kara Barnes deduced. “No matter who the opponent is on the other side, we want to focus on playing our game and what we can control.”

This was certainly an up & down game with each school winning their set(s) by 9 to 11 points with very little drama.

In fact, that one dramatic scenario came in that 3rd set after a Panther blitz over CLJV with a, 25-14 blow-out 2nd set win and then starting that final winner take all 3rd set being able to jump out to what looked like another whitewash, 3-1.

That was when Valentina Figueroa awakened this Hawk team with her straight down kill that allowed a shower of Hawksters getting into the act and beating Blanco, 25-16 for match dominance.

That Figueroa kill got The Lake a lead that would not be relinquished resulting in another conquest.

It was on a Kyra Menchaca 5 point serve that gave enough separation as this tired Panther team could not respond with any returns giving CLake a, 9-3 lead.

Rylee McCallum’s service sealed the deal winning seven points with a block and kill for Catherine Montoya, a McCallum kill, then having Grace Smith opening two birthday present kills that gave The Lake a insurmountable lead, 20-6.

Smith would lead the Hawks with 6 kills and 5 aces as she will see what she can do in bringing that same birthday intensity in future battles.

Nedra Edwards contributed 4 aces while McCallum and Leighton Hill chipping 5 kills a piece.

Twelve total aces kept this game in the Hawk’s favor but that second set still was a problem area but an epic comeback helped put this win in the laugher category.

Now a little more focus will be needed for competing in Marble Falls Tournament starting this Thursday!

The Lake’s Green (6-0) stay undefeated by winning in three sets.

“The Hawks did a great job last night competing against the Panthers,” Head Green Coach Trevor Hamblet recapped. “They showed resilience and mental toughness and their three set win. Our quad was led by a strong performances from Kennedy Morris and Leya Campos.”

Congrats as both teams will be in action this Thursday and Saturday in a Marble Falls tournament and with another battle against Randolph on Friday night
