Coach Chapman planning strategy in Hawk Victory

The ReSporter: How many new guys are around that were not here last year that will help fill out your roster?

Coach Chapman: “This one’s easy…zero. Well at least at the varsity level. We do have three sophomore move-ins that will help the JV out tremendously though.”

The ReSporter: With the type of team you are looking at, how will that dictate your offense and defense for this year?

Coach Chapman: “We are going to be even bigger than we were last year, and we will use that to our advantage.”

Lady Hawk’s Basketball Season Tips-Off this Week

Head Basketball Coach Zach Burleson

Canyon Lake will start their 2nd Season, under the helm of Coach Burleson,  this week on Friday when San Antonio Brooks Academy comes to the Hawk Nest to open the season.

Last year’s team had a lot of young players and you could see players Freshman on Varsity/Junior Varsity/Freshman teams. All three groups of players upped their game as you could see a smile on Coach Zach Burleson’s face, knowing that the future could bring some much needed infusion for Basketball.

A year later and seeing improvement will be good to see as the proverbial, lot’s of potential, will be on stage this season to see if that potential can be translated to wins.

The ReSporter had a chance to catch up with Coach Burleson for a Coaches Corner.

Canyon Lake cleared their 2nd hurdle on a road for their first district championship after an entertaining, 53-35 win.

“Fredericksburg is much better this year and with our team effort we were able to step up as this is all about ‘Team’,” Head Coach Charley Drum stated. “We had guys ready to play when we had some starters go down and that has been what we have been doing all year…..Experience was the key, as we have had a lot of players starting and that is especially true this season.”
