This is the second of a three part series and we will look at the Relays and Dash in this segment.

The Hawks will have some impressive matches and how this Track Team performs will be based on how Jordan Anderson will be used.

This is why they pay Head Track Coach Cody Means the big bucks as he will be in his office late figuring how to run his relays based on each athlete only having three running events that can be performed.

Hawks Softball Prepares for a Huge Week

Sunday, April 7th, 2013

How does Canyon Lake’s Softball team get into playoff contention in this second round?

Senior Vicky Henderson

Well, one thing is for sure would be wins against Wimberley and Bandera first and part of that equation will be this Tuesday when the Hawks meet Bandera.

Canyon Lake has a huge win over Navarro a couple of games ago and that same team beat Bandera in the first round.

Since the Hawks have won their game over Navarro earlier, then that team can help even District 27-3A play. A Navarro sweep over every team but CL will wipe out that sweep from the hands of Fredericksburg.

Yes, Canyon Lake needs help but first off winning every game would make it much easier than getting out a slide rule to figure out what and where as this season gets into the stretch run.

Jordan Anderson has Heads Up on Competition

Saturday, April 6th, 2013

Jordan Anderson Jumping Over the Records

Jordan Anderson will be readying himself for his final District Track Meet this week and this young man has a lot of skins on the wall as one of the best Track Athletes Canyon Lake has had through the last three years.

Anderson has been getting a head up on his District 27-3A opponents for three years now and you know their will be a lot of underclassman that will be glad they will not have to compete against this type of trickster after this season.

Having a heads up also means a hair cut so you can reduce that head wind and have those faster times in those Dash Runs.

Here are results from Anderson’s last three years including his Freshman campaign on Junior Varsity. Notice how many points he has garnered.

Also note that on the relays you divide that event by four teammates, so if your relay finished first those 20 points would equal 5 points for each individual runner.

Hawks Sweep Bulldogs, 7-1

Saturday, April 6th, 2013

Infielder Peyton Sipila

The Hawks finally put the Bandera Bulldogs away in a much needed sweep in district play, 7-1 on Friday night.

With each team scoring a run in the first inning, Canyon Lake had a nail driving six run rally in that sixth inning giving the Hawks a lead that would guarantee a sweep of Bandera.

Another good pitching performance from Ryan Hutcheson by allowing just one run on one hit to even his record to 3-3 for the season.

Senior Kyler Huff finished the game off closing out that 7th inning and closing the door and not allowing the Dogs to go outside for anymore play time.

Canyon Lake had bats were alive in this contest finishing with 12 hits and the top four batters in the batting order tied with two a piece.

Bandera is on the bottom of District 27-3A without a win and this game was a must for CL in order to get back into the district race.

A good sign in raising the season batting percentage by 7 points without any strikeouts.

CL Hawks Beat Bandera as they go for Sweep on Friday

Friday, April 5th, 2013

Pitcher Cody Powell

Canyon Lake only needs one more win to sweep the series with Bandera.

This series was a must win for Canyon Lake as a loss would put the Hawks in a hole since Bandera is at the bottom of District 27-3A.

This game was won with the pitching of Cody Powell who recovered after a tough start in his last outing.

Seven strikeouts and giving up just one three hits was just what the doctored ordered as CL was also held to just three hits in this win.

Six errors by the Bulldogs certainly helped at Canyon Lake had six batters reach base by an error on Bandera giving an extra six outs for CL which all but sealed the deal.

Softball: Hawks Get a Win over Navarro, 2-1

Friday, April 5th, 2013

A big win for Canyon Lake over Navarro helps give a focus to the Hawks needed finish this season strong.

Pitcher Alexis Robinson struck out 14 Panthers in this game and the Hawks will certainly trade a pitching game like this versus a great game from the plate.

The Hawks struck for two runs in that first inning and that would be all they would need as Robinson certainly had command of the strike zone.

Senior McKenna Beseda helped with a double and scored in that first inning along with Kelsey Ahrens for what would prove the be the winning run.

What this game said loud and clear was that this Hawk team does not have to be on fire from the offensive side of a game in order to get a win.

The Panthers Herzog was one of the players that was a thorn in the side of Canyon Lake’s road to a victory on this rain delayed game.

So with three batters that were silenced in this game in Robinson, Brianna Young, and Lilimae Daily this victory gives a important message that the Hawks don’t have to be on fire from every player to pull off a win.

Final Track Standings before District Meet

Monday, April 1st, 2013

District 27-3A has now been updated after last week’s track meet results.

Doug Hubnik taking Baton from Daniel Camarillo

The ReSporter had to wait a little longer since some athletes were competing at the Texas Relays.

One such student was Marisa Ellis competing in the Triple Jump. Ellis still had a better jump at the Hawk Relays and presently still has first place for district.

These events are the most comprehensive as all meets were recorded giving The ReSporter a chance to update to a closer idea of how the District 27-3A Track Meet might end up if held this week.

Most of the Schools has some minor meets this week as Canyon Lake will be going back to Blanco for a Tri-Meet this Thursday.

Canyon Lake will be hosting district again this season and that will be starting off a week from Wednesday.

If you study these times and want to have a good idea of how to see what might happen in a meet, then their are a couple of items you might want to look for as The ReSporter has been compiling these type news for three years.

**That date after the team is important as it indicates when that result was achieved. So, if you see that a long jumper had their best jump in February then it could mean that student might have peaked already, injuries, sickness, and you might see their name in other events and that was one that did not take priority.

So results that are more recent will tend to carry more wait.

**Many of these students have been entered into several events over the past few weeks as Coaches are searching for where their team might get more points for meets.
