Lady Hawks Track and Field Adds Table Tennis to Events

Thursday, March 21st, 2013

Trena Lorett getting ready for her next Event.

Lady Hawks Tracksters are pretty powerful considering the number of athletes they have participating for the team this season.

Trena Lorett is one of those athletes that would be entered in every event they would let her enter and that is certainly as asset for the Hawks this year.

Unfortunately for CL they only allow five events per meet.

Lorett has been playing Volleyball, Basketball, and every Sport allowed in Track.

Put is this way, if they had Table Tennis, then this young lady would be involved.

“I’m super competitive and driven,” Lorett stated matter of fact. “If I was in the stands watching a sport, then I would want to be out there competing.”

One thing that could be hard for most people is making the switch between sports during the year.

Lorett has that covered, “When I’m playing Volleyball, then I’m playing select Basketball and when I’m playing Basketball, then I’m playing select Volleyball.”

You can see how Lorett takes care of that potential problem. She just double (more…)

CLJV Baseball Earn Split in Beating Bandera, 8-0

Tuesday, March 19th, 2013

Canyon Lake JV Baseball team split a double header with Bandera, Monday night at the Hawk Diamond

Pitcher Austin Headrick

winning the second game, 8-0 to earn this split.

The Hawks were a different team when they took the field for the nightcap.

“Coach (Brian Owens) challenged our manhood,” Colton Avey said after commenting how bad their first game was played. “That got us fired up!”

The split was a result of good defense and even better pitching.

How good? Try these stats out for size.

Bandera’s pitcher threw 35 pitches in his first inning of work.
Austin Headrick pitched 30 pitches for the entire game.

How about three outs on three pitches in his final inning.

“I have only done that once when I was eight,” Pitcher Headrick recollected. “I was really focused and Coach really wanted us to turn it around after the loss and get some enthusiasm.”

Canyon Lake Boy’s District Track Standings

Saturday, March 16th, 2013

The Hawks District Track team has had a couple of meets to get some idea of where they might

Canyon Lake getting the Jump on the Competition

stand against their District 27-3A brethren.

Below you will find out based on CL’s best times and distances compared with athletes from other district teams.

Notice that you will see names of the events followed by where they would stack up with opponents.

Also, number notations will indicate the date of when said athlete performed their time. Hence a 2.23 would let you know the month and date of that performance.

Numbers at the end of each line will give you how much that event would be worth for the District teams.

Jordan Anderson’s first place time in the 100 Meter Dash would be worth 10 points for Canyon Lake.

Hawks Lose Heartbreaker to Wimberley, 4-3

Saturday, March 16th, 2013

Left Fielder Cody Powell

Canyon Lake could not hold onto a two run lead in the seventh inning and end up giving a game to Wimberley in extra innings, 4-3.

The Hawks were progressing through the game with timely double plays and hitting while forging to what seemed to be a comfortable win.

Then two hit batters to start the seventh inning ended up scoring on the Texans only hit of that stanza and tying the game which eventually led to this heartbreaking loss.

Daniel Camarillo started the game with a double in the gap and scored the Hawks opening run when the Texans pitcher wild pitched him home on a bang…bang play at the plate.

Canyon Lake drew blood again in the third when Peyton Sipila singled with one out and advanced to second on catcher’s indifference.

Enter Cody Powell, who proceeded to have a seven pitch at bat and he finally found a pitch to handle scoring Sipila with a single.

That at bat by Powell had six of those seven pitches in the strike zone and speaks well for a great at bat. Powell ended this game with three hits.

The Hawks last score was ln the next inning when CL had two outs that were made on the base paths.

With Camarillo advancing to third with Travis Walker’s hard grounder in the hole, the ball hit Camarillo’s foot resulting in runner’s interference and an automatic out.

Walker’s hit would of scored Camarillo, but all CL had to show for this first out of the inning was two runners on and one out.

Hawks even District 27-3A Record in Win over Bandera

Tuesday, March 12th, 2013

J. J. Nance with the Team watching on

The Hawks evened their district record with a walk off single by Michael Brady helping CL overcome a two run deficit in their last at bat.

Canyon Lake had a 3-2 lead starting the third inning but a seventh inning three run rally by the Bulldogs was matched when the Hawks held on for a team that might not have accomplished a game like this in previous seasons.

“Things looked bleak,” Head Coach Trent Dunavant mused. “I don’t know what a come from behind win will do for this club, but last year’s team would not of won this game.

Corey Shedrock who had been injured the past couple of weeks had a pinch hit in that last inning and that was just what the doctored ordered.

That hit was a result of a perfect bunt single on what was set up to be a sacrifice bunt to advance the two runners. This bunt saved an important out and helped lead to the late heroics.

Brady also added a triple to his walk off single resume and has been on a good hitting streak the past few games.

Hawks Sweep Last Two Games in Llano Tourney

Monday, March 11th, 2013

Peyton Sipila

Canyon Lake Baseball team rebounded with two wins in the Llano Tournament last Saturday.

The two wins were a welcome relief after losing their first two games of this tourney.

The Hawks beat Austin St. Michaels for the first time since starting the program, 5-4.

Travis Walker had a strong six innings of work before giving up the mound for Austin Headricks to help end the inning.

Kyler Huff ended up pitching the final inning and getting the win.

Michael Brady continues to have a high on base percentage as he finished with one hit and three walks.

Peyton Sipila and Daniel Camarillo both finished with two hits in this contest.

Lady Hawks Soccer Team Order T-Shirts

Friday, March 8th, 2013

Lady Hawks Soccer clinched a spot for the post season with a 6-0 wipeout over Seguin on Friday night.

Christina Fowler was a scoring machine with five of the Canyon Lakes points. Lauren Justis had the other score on this record night.

Now CL has a chance of finishing third with a victory over Wimberley to end their regular season later this month.

It has been almost two years since a CL team has had a chance to order Playoff T-Shirts and now the toughest job might be trying to find the number for that T-Shirt company.

Assists for Canyon Lake were Kaitlin Wier, Michelle Panek, Morgan Boles-Crumrine.

Goalkeeper Wynne Clark had four saves in the shut-out and now the Hawks will work on their game as they prepare for another season—Post Season.

Congrats….now finish the season strong Hawks!!
