Tuesday, November 29th, 2011Coaches Corner: Canyon Lake’s Matt Monzingo
Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011Time with Head Coach Matt Monzingo morphed to looking into the future of the football program.
The Hawks have just finished an 8-2 record while beating some very good teams in the process.
The Sealy game comes to mind as Canyon Lake had one of its most important statement games in the short history for this program.
“We (CL) will reevaluate everything we are doing,” Coach Monzingo started. “From pre-game to halftime we will go over all of it.”
Talking about the players coming back, Coach Monzingo said, “We will have to move some guys around while we evaluate our depth.”
“We will have to develop a defensive end and defensive line,” Monzingo continued. “We want to find some meanness in them and find some guys with an attitude.”
Canyon Lake is losing several players on both sides of the line that had put in considerable minutes.
Canyon Lake Freshman now 2-0, beat Cedar Ridge
Monday, November 21st, 2011The Canyon Lake Freshmen Boy’s Basketball team improved to 2-0 on the
season beating Round Rock Cedar Ridge 39-36. For the second straight game the Hawks relied on a great defensive team effort to pull out a game that came down to the last possession.
“Since day one we have talked about defense being the key to be successful,” coach Luke Chapman said. “The kids have bought in and we made enough stops tonight to come out with a big win.”
Leading the way for the Hawks was Garrett Winters with 15 points. Taylor Lucas chipped in with 6 points and Skylar Tschoepe and Branton Kindla added 5 apiece.

Boy’s Basketball: Cedar Ridge beats Canyon Lake, 50-44
Saturday, November 19th, 2011Canyon Lake (1-1) lost a tough game to Cedar Ridge last Friday at the Hawk Gym, 50-44.
The Hawks had to dig themselves out of a hole as they closed out the first quarter down by eight points. The game started tight with both teams not able to break loose as they were tied six all halfway through the quarter.
Cedar Ridge got separation after making a three pointer and increasing the lead to the end of the stanza.
Canyon Lake was finding it hard scoring points while shooting 30 percent in the quarter.
“We addressed that the shooting will be an issue initially,” Head Coach Jeff Maynard started.
If not for free throws, the Hawks would of been in even more hurt.

Canyon Lake, The Best 8-2 team in State!!
Sunday, November 6th, 2011Canyon Lake is the best 8-2 team in State that is not in the playoffs, and
unfortunately the scenario played out like many people thought when Wimberley and Navarro won their games sending the Hawks into a longer than expected off season. The Hawks did not let that scenario keep them from finishing on a winning note, as Canyon Lake put the collar on the Bulldogs, 55-33 at Bandera Stadium last Friday night.
CLHS scored the first touchdown of the second half and put this game out of reach for Bandera.
The season was memorable for other reasons besides not making the playoffs, this campaign allowed the fans and parents to see a team bond together through hard work in crafting another brick on the Canyon Lake house for future seasons.
