CL loses to Mikesky Sisters otherwise known as Schulenburg

Friday, August 19th, 2011

The Canyon Lake Hawks ran into a Mikesky (other synonym ‘Buzz Saw’) last Friday night at the Hawk gym, 14-25, 20-25, and 17-25.

The Mikesky sisters dominated the night in every statistical category but blocks in the game. The older sister will be heading to play at Florida University next year and the younger sister is just a freshman.

“She (L. Mikesky) was a hitter,” middle hitter Katie Williams said. “She had a big arm.”

Williams was inspired by the competition and played one of her best games of the season.

The ReSporter will be breaking down the game the next few days for the Canyon Lake Hawks football team. There will be three articles with the first two having three games each with the final having four.

The Hawks need to start the season on an upbeat performance against Blanco. The opening game loss last year is still a painful memory for Canyon Lake and the best way to get the taste out of their mouth would be a convincing win.

Was that Intentional?

I hope you are getting ready for the upcoming football season as much as I am.  I know, like every year, it will hold all kinds of excitement and surprises.  I for one love the build up, the thoughts of what if, and the wonderful end to the looooong break away from the greatest sport on earth.  My oldest son, Noah is starting his first football season and I was surprised this past weekend to see how well he performed in the grass drills he participated in.  He is going into a draft for a Youth Football League and I potentially could officiate one of his games.  I am even more excited about this year and hope that I will be able to.

Alex Kemp shows next play during practices

Alex Kemp shows next play during practices

The Hawks are finishing their second week of practices and Head Coach Matt Monzingo seems to be in a good mood.

“We are way ahead of where we were last year at this time,” Coach Monzingo surmised. “We are two or three deep before there is any drop off.”

That statement allows the Coaches a lot of freedom to mix and match the team for both sides of the ball.

This is the classic for the coaches where they asked the class to read some books before the players came back to school after the summer months. The team would be telling the coaches that they not only read what was assigned, but also went to the library to get extra books read.

The good news is that the CL Hawks beat Liberty Hill.
The better news is that the Hawks are not in Cedar Ridge’s District

Canyon Lake started their Volleyball season with a nail biter win over Liberty Hill last Tuesday night at the Hawk Gym.

The Hawks had lost a ton of talent from last year’s team, but seem to have a group of girls that want to help the crowd forget the past and forge into the future.                                                                                         (more…)

Canyon Lake Hawks brought three players up as Sophomores last season and will now be joining up with the JV crew that finished undefeated last year.

Isaac Pruna was used as a linebacker and put up some impressive numbers. Now it is time to see the experience blossom into a break out Junior year.
