Canyon Lake Golf Teams Finish 2nd at Pieper (Girls) & Concan (Boys)

Monday, March 3rd, 2025

(L-R) Tristen Evans, James Cornell, Trey Rasor, Coach Garney, Rogan Rodriquez and Jacob Tuckness.
Finish 2nd in a Two-Day Tourney against several 5A & 6A Schools! Go Lake!

Canyon Lake has a chance to, ‘go where no other Hawk Team has ever gone before’ as this year’s Boys Golf team made a big statement in a two day event that had several larger schools participating.

“Our Varsity Boys Golf completed in the Concan Boys Invitational at Rio Valley Ranch Golf Club over the weekend,” Head Coach Ryan Garney relayed excitedly. “Over the 2 day Tournament the boys finished 2nd overall. Some of the best 6A and 5A schools from around the state competed.”

The five some golfers were Roger Rodriquez, Jacob Tuckness, Tristen Evans, James Cornell, and Trey Rasor.

The Lake were led by Rodriques who finished 7th overall with a score of 73 on Friday ad an 80 on Saturday for a two day score of, 153.

Tuckness finished 10th shooting a 77 & 81 for 158 score….Evans finished 15th with an overall score of 162 (84 first day/78 second day).

                         Way to Go Lake!!

This was a first for The Lake to place at this prestigious tourney….much less placing at the 2nd School Overall.

Consistency is a major ingredient in every sport but golf that consistency is at a premium for a team that has 5 individuals playing as a team.

“Our kids have been up and down all year but this was some of the best golf they’ve played,” Coach Garney birdied. “These were good schools we beat. Normally we get beat pretty bad but this group is playing well.

Lady Hawk’s Junior Varsity finish 2nd at Pieper Tournament! Way to Go Lake!

The Hawk Ladies had a decent outing this past week also, “Our Girls took 2nd place at the Pieper JV Invitational at Rebecca Creek,” Coach Garney glowed. “Our girls were led by Kailey Morgan, Caledonia Beatty, Chayce Standifer, Trinity Turner and Reese Dawley.”

Coach Garney continued, “It was great to get these girls some experience and realize they enjoy playing good. Several of the girls had never played a full 18 hole tournament and it was exciting to see them have so much fun and bring some hardware home. I hope this sparks a desire to get even better.”

Some good happenings as Golf starts to raise The Lake. Just be careful and not let it get too high…a water hole is hard enough.

Way to GO LAKE!!

Hawk Baseball Comal Clash Starts Thursday 730p

Monday, March 3rd, 2025

Ryan Rena & the rest of CL’s Baseball will prepare for the Comal Clash this week-end. Go Lake!

Canyon Lake’s Baseball team had a productive tournament last week with some signature wins and one loss & a tie that allowed The Lake a chance to put players in a position to produce as Hawk Coaches continue using this time of the season to evaluate what and how players respond.

“We played larger schools and they had deeper pools of pitchers,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla stated when asked for his assessment from last week’s of contests. “We were able to get players getting starts and got more kids to play. These games keep them sharp and working hard. There were ups and downs just like the season and we still have to stay tough.”

Coach Escamailla closed, “These games put us in different situations and I was pleased with how they produced.”

Canyon Lake will play 4 games this week starting against Holliday on Thursday and two games Friday. After Friday’s contests the Saturday opponent will be slotted based on comparable strength of schools.

All games will be at the Hawk Nest as this will be CL’s last week of tournament games and games that will not be timed for playing a regular games in preparation for District 26-4A.

Below you can see how those schools are doing as the district battles will be coming later this month when Canyon Lake will travel the Devil’s Backbone March 25th.

                             Go Hawks!

A pretty good week at The Lake that just passed. Baseball finished 3-1-1, Softball 5-1, Girls Soccer beat Freddie, Hawk Relays had some PR’s for several Hawksters, and Boys Golf finished 2nd in a two day Tourney against 4-5-6A school.

Baseball/Softball had two players pitch no-hitters….Aubrey Long (against Natalia) and Carter Williams (against San Angelo Central). These two players also contributed in the batter’s box with home-runs.

The Comal Clash starts this week on Thursday at 730p when The Lake clashes against Holliday. Two games on Friday with start time at 5pm followed at 7pm for the nightcap.

Softball is finished with tournaments and now enters 7 inning contests with Blanco (Tuesday) and Killeen Chaparral (Friday) both at the Hawk Nest.

                            Let’s Go Lake!

The Lady Hawk’s win over Freddie solidified their district standings chances in punching their ticket for the post-season. The Billies are fighting for a spot but The Lake will possess the tie-breaker after sweeping Fredericksburg.

Track & Field had some good results for the Lady Hawks and The ReSporter will have an article posted this week while the tricksters head to Pleasanton this Thursday.

Hawk Boys Golf will be teeing it off on Tuesday at Vaaler Creek and will hopefully riding the success achieved this past week.

Come out to support a bevy of sports at the Hawk Nest & GO LAKE!

Tuesday, February 18th, 2025

Hawks gather after opening day spanking of Devine, 11-0. Go Lake!

Canyon Lake came out of their chute with some degree of authority by amassing 13 hits (3 doubles) and in that 1st inning leaving the bases loaded. It was a spanking with their only blemish coming in the field with two miscues and leaving the bases loaded with-out a run scored.

The ReSporter was able to catch up with Head Girls Soccer Coach Kara Stracener after tying a top 10 team, Wimberley which will be a great momentum builder as well helping solidify another chance of making the playoffs.

The Lake’s Lady Soccer team presently has the longest running playoff streak compared to Blake’s other team sports. These Texan’s are averaging 4 goals per outing which gives an idea of how well this Hawk team is starting to jell.

Hit Man way to get rid of Pests Hawks!

“Our girls are undefeated so far in district and continue to improve each game,” Coach Stracener started.  “We are 8-3-3 on the season and  had a 2nd place finish in our first tournament of the season.”

Canyon Lake has strung together some impressive outings, “We had a big win against 6A Canyon High School right before we started district and just tied Wimberley who is a top ranked team in 4A soccer in the region,” Stracener blushed.

“We knew that Wimberley was going to be a tough game as they had just come off of a win against Davenport, one of the top ranked teams in the area.  As far as our game plan, we had 3 things we were focusing on going into the Wimberley game.”

“The girls executed the plan very well.   They did really well with 2 out of the 3.  We struggled on the offensive side of things because Wimberley has a strong defense and put pressure on us much more quickly than any team we’ve seen this year.  I am very pleased with how the girls battled and frustrated Wimberley,” Coach Stracener said realizing that the Texan’s have given up just 5 goals this season out of 15 contests.  “We played great team defense and outworked a very good team.”

Things don’t get any easier as this district is always tough and represents good outings during the post-season.

“We will continue to build on the momentum from the positive outcome from last Friday going into this week where we finish up the first round of district against two more solid teams, Marble Falls Tuesday at home and Friday away at Davenport.”

Coach Stracener shared bout this year’s offense, “Girls with top offensive stats are Savanna Oberholtzer with 21 goals so far on the season.  Then Rya Clark and Kylee Morrow, 2nd and 3rd in goals scored for the team.”

Canyon Lake is still a young outfit and look to raise the bar as this season continues to mature.

“Our 3 seniors on the team, make up 3 out of the 4 defenders in the back. Their experience and leadership has been outstanding for the team this year and kept us in some tough games.  Sophomore goal keeper, Callie Dominguez (was a defender for us last year), has stepped up and made some great saves and continues to improve,” Starcener closed with hopes of keeping this district slate in good shape.
