The Lake Freshman Tidied Tivy, 55-22

The Lake Freshman Football team continued their quest in finishing this year undefeated after Tidying Tivy, 55-22.

“Our team is well balanced and has so much energy on both sides of the ball,” Head Freshman Coach Lee Self quipped. “They don’t quit and just keep fighting on each play.”

Sage words from Coach Self for a team that had 3 losses last year in Middle School and a year later seem to have found their mojo after seeing another district opponent  just tidying up their belongings for their trip back home.

Starting with Raiden Williams’ 85 yard opening kick run-back giving The Lake a seven point lead 17 seconds into this battle. Yes, Williams is faster in running the ball but this runback was coupled with scrounging around to get to this ball before leaving for his final destination.

This was Williams second game in a row with a kick-off return for a score.

Kerrville Tivy did show a pulse with their opening drive on a first  23 yard run.  Tivy  would end this drive on a block by Darion Gallo leaving The Lake with 50 yards for a score.

This was a drive with 3 explosive plays:
1) Hunt Simpson  31 yard run.
2) Isaac Torres    17 yard run.
3) Nash Cason    26 yard TD reception.

In this contest Cason reached 123 yards receiving while QB Coen Vanlandingham continued his improved passing as the season has matured…this time throwing for 175 yards. (see below)

Canyon Lake would score on every possession during those first two quarters while Kerrville was able to score to start their 2nd quarter helping draw their deficit to, 21-6.

Vanlandingham had 5 passes reaching the end zone with Simpson adding his TD that converted a 4th down for the score.

Isaac Torres had 103 yards rushing and scored on an 8 yard jaunt that increase the lead, 34-6 with one more score in the offing to close out the first half on a Cason 9 yard catch and a, 41-6 lead.

The second half was greeted with a running clock but not before seeing Jaxson Cameron’s finishing touches with his weaving 43 yarder and final score, 55-22.

The Lake will be back in action next Thursday in Fredericksburg. This Billie team might want some payback after their loss to these Hawks a couple of weeks ago.

That game found CLHS not having a lead after Freddie started that game with a 14 point lead. This has been the only time this Freshman squad has not had a lead….

Now with some Hawks needing some Tidying up before shearing some Goats next week.

Way to GO LAKE!
