Canyon Lake Boy’s Basketball halted a 27 game and 13 year losing streak to the Fredericksburg Billies with a stifling defense that resulted in a 6 point win, 46-40.

                  Way to Go Hawks!!
       Come out our Christmas Gifts!!

Freddie’s last lead left the Hawk Nest at the 6:40 mark of the 2nd quarter when Jacob Holland sunk one of his three- 3 pointers after an assist from Mario Aguilar that gave the home team an, 11-8 lead.

That advantage would increase to 10 points at the 5:50 mark of the 3rd stanza when Holland sank his 2nd three pointer with another assist from Aguilar and a 28-18 Hawk lead.

Fredericksburg would stage a comeback outscoring The Lake, 17-9 to end that quarter that had the Hawks still leading, 37-33.

That 3rd quarter saw Freddie score 19 points but CL’s defense would finish strong holding the Billies with 7 points in that pivotal last quarter.

Canyon Lake held FHS to a total of 21 points in those other three quarters which secured a long awaited Hawk win.

Go Hawks & Way to Fly High!!

Three Hawks scored in double figures with 11 points, Holland, Aguilar and Jaxson Jeter.

Carter Williams continued his Chairman of the Board year securing 10 rebounds which was his 7th consecutive double figure rebounds since returning to the hard wood 8 games ago.

Williams scored just 2 points but with his Boards 10, Steals 5 and Blocks 3, he would certainly have a say in getting this win.

It was Jeter’s first full game since last year and he contributed points (11) he had 3 steals and some mastery dribbling that left Billies looking like they had rocks in their shoes.

Dalton Stromquist was also cleared for his first game since suffering an injury during this year’s second game win over Hondo.

                        Go Hawks!!

When Head Coach Monte Cole was asked bout the game Stromquist and Jeter had, “That is what those two guys bring to the table and we knew that going in and we knew that the playmaking ability of Jaxson (Jeter) and Dalton’s presence around the basket both offensively and defensively were going to be big and be healthy….but they’re still not 100% but they’re getting there and we are looking forward to having everybody and be ready to go.”

Canyon Lake has arguably their deepest bench since basketball play first jump ball (2008) which was evident after two minor bumps and bruises that benched two Hawk starters in that final period of play.

A game that in year’s past would have resulted in a probable loss became a situation where two substitutes being brought in with little to no difference allowing CL to finish this district encounter with a Hawk victory.

“Well, that has been our MO this season,” Coach Cole started when asked bout that situation of needing help from the bench. “We have had guys out and we haven’t had a full squad and we have really had a good game and then we go through part of the game when some key guys go down, but I was confident in our guys coming in because we have done it all season. And that was kind of the silver lining that was in disguise where having guys injured to start the season. We had other guys get a lot of reps and those other guys had confidence to be able to execute and they were big.”

Now Canyon Lake will finish this year with a tournament in Fredericksburg on December 28th before district play begins January 4th against Davenport.

This Canyon Lake win matched their one district win last year and now a chance to keep raising the Lake as this year continues.

Way to Go Hawks!!
