The Lake is Cold Blooded in Win over Goliad, 4-1

Canyon Lake was ‘Cold Blooded’ in their win over Goliad to open their Sinton Tournament with a 4-1 score.

Bryce May is suppling the heat with a balmy .833 batting average as CL’s lead-off hitter in his first two outings.,

Carter Williams took the win giving up two hits and striking out 9 Tigers.

The Lake ran themselves out of runs during those first 3 innings being caught stealing or being stranded by fielder choice outs.

It was that 4th frame the Hawks were able to string enough at bats in scoring 4 runs.

Williams got the 4th going with a one out single and then Wayen Slania-Werz doubled Williams in on that next at bat.

A pop-out came next that put CLHS with two outs and only a tied score in these timed contests.

This would be CL’s second game with clutch on base at bats after garnering 2 outs. The next 5 Hawks reached base with two book-end singles (Michael Anderson & Bryce May) that had 3 walks sandwiched in between (Lucas Schexnayder, Ryan Rena & Hayes Holladay) that would lead to 3 more runs and an eventual Lake win.

May ended the game with 2 hits while Wertz supplied the power with his double.

Holladay closed the game out in the last inning with a 3 up & 3 down with a time conclusion for this contest.

It was a cold affair but Canyon Lake turned out to be a cold blooded opponent in disposing of these Tigers.

When asked bout how this team handled the cold, Head Coach Victor Escamilla was just as cold with that answer, “I told them, I don’t like the cold but I’m not fighting for a starting spot. No excuses, just get it done.”

Canyon Lake has also shown the ability to string some big inning throughout the pre-season and now going into the season. This damage is coming from every facet of the batting order.

“The bottom of the order has been producing,” Coach Escamilla surmised. “It’s all about the lead off getting on.”

Canyon Lake will continue this week-end of games and will look to keep their Cold Blood Boiling with more wins.
