CL Green Win Double Header Over Bandera, 6-2 & 9-2

Canyon Lake’s Green Baseball team won a double header over the Bandera Bulldogs as District 28-4A play continues, 6-2 and 9-2.

Roman Gonzales was the winning pitcher in that first contest in giving up just one earned run and giving up no walks while striking out 7 Dogs. The combination of Gonzales and Michael Anderson pitching resulted in 9 total strikeouts.

The bottom of the Hawk batting order had Steven Crowder (2) and Gage Gibbons (1) had 3 hits while driving in 4 of the CL 6 scores.

Ryder Hopper pitched 4 innings of no hit ball in that 2nd battle with Gibbons closing the game but these two pitchers combined for 9 walks as control was a problem.

Crowder led with a two game total of 4 hits and the Hawks as a team finished with 10 hits in that second game.

Dane (Flash) Sweet used his speed for an infield come backer to Bandera’s pitcher for a single which was one of the most impressive plays on this night. Sweet was just as fast stealing as he stood on the 2nd base as the throw came to the bag.

Dane Sweet was speedy, quick, swift, rapid, brisk, turbo, etc going to 1st Base.

“I thought he (the pitcher) had caught it but when I saw it tip off his glove I said I can beat it out,” Sweet said sweetly.

On what CL’s hopes as this district season continues, “We want to win the tournament and get back at Wimberley and Boerne….we have pitching depth and some good freshman players.”

Canyon Lake will continue their season as they will circle April 23rd on their calendar when they have a chance to prove they are the best in this district when the District 28-4A Junior Varsity Tournament crowns a champion.
