Offensive Line (L-R) Anthony Mata, John Fugate, Ryan Frederick & Parker Gordon helps keep QB Jace Wheeler clean.

                                     Let’s GO LAKE!

The Lake lost some water in loss to Lago Vista Vikings, 21-35 after outscoring the Hawks 14 points in second half.

Explosive plays was Lago Vista’s best weapon that came with a plethora of explosive plays that did allow the Hawks with more time which helped tying the score right before the end of that first half.

Case in point was LV’s first drive only needing 4 plays to cover 91 yards with two 13 yard plays by ground and air. Then two other running plays for over 30 yards and the Vikings first score.

Canyon Lake’s first drive showed hope but a costly penalty left too much yardage and eventual punt.

During that first quarter both teams punted 4 times with 3 of those kicks off the foot of Jace Wheeler. Wheeler kept up his strong punting from last season when he averaged 40.2 yards and in this first contest he raised his standard with 6 punts covering 44.3 yards in this game.

                                   Let’s GO HAWKS!

The Second Quarter had the Vikings with a two play drive that had another explosive snap this time going 84 yards down the home town’s sideline resulting in a 14 point Hawk deficit.

C-Lake finally broke their silence when Wheeler found Peyton King on a 47 yard post play for a score. King moved up to 3rd place in receiving yardage with his 176 yard night on 9 receptions.

The Lake stopped Lago Vista on their next drive on a fumble that was recovered by Soph. Defensive End Derek Dunlap. CL then took 6 plays tying the score when Kobe Halverson darted through the Viking defense for his 46 yard catch and run from Wheeler.

Viking’s Next drive was a QB run up the middle for 50 explosive yards and another 7 point deficit as the result.

With still 2:05 before halftime, The Lake, answered with their 3rd TD of this period when Aiden Boals’ one yard touchdown catch, 21-21.  It took CL 6 plays and 44 seconds for this important battle.

Canyon Lake squandered one more possession with 40 seconds when Lago Vista’s 14 yard punt gave enough time for one more chance, this time, a lead going into the locker room.

Then a Wheeler touchdown run was called back after a penalty and one more try for pay dirt but Nico Wyckoff reached one yard short of the goal line that ended a wild 2nd frame.

It was the 2nd half that Lago Vista used more explosive plays that finally left a mark on these Hawks after a 79 yard scoring play which gave these Vikings a lead they would not relinquish.
