          Keep the Water Running Lake!

The Hawks Ducted Taped Ducks in, 70-35 as The Lake outscored Taylor, 42-7 in second half.

CL’s defense came alive after intermission as Defensive Coordinator Kurt Sloan elaborated, “We didn’t change anything but we just talked about doing our job better,” Coach Sloan said in what was said at halftime. “There was a lot of spots that we were not doing our job… so we just fixed those things, so we didn’t doing anything schematically and we came out and played hard and were able to get our interceptions…the first ones this year and things started rolling.”

This district win is the first one for this long season with still 5 more battles with Austin Travis coming next week for CL’s Homecoming date.

The Lake had another tough start when these Ducks’ second play went for 74 yards via a catch and run, down the sideline, to pay dirt.

CLake would respond by getting behind the eight ball after CL’s offense needed 22 yards for a first down.

                       Let’s GO HAWKS!

A Jace Wheeler 42 yard punt was the result giving these Ducks a chance to score only needing 43 yards for a score. A Peyton Vann interception would play a huge field position switch and The Lake would need just 3 plays to score when Wheeler found Peyton King on a post route between two Ducks who would not get close to King even if this was a flag football going 52 yards.

Next, it was Taylor taking 11 plays for their second score and, 14-7 lead.

This game was looking like last week’s back~and~forth game with Davenport as Canyon Lake would tie it up again in using 10 plays covering 75 yards accented when Ryan Rena bulldozed one yard knotting for the score and another tie, 14-14.

                     Way to GO LAKE!

Then another quick Taylor strike on an 80 yard kick-off return and these Ducks were flying high in regaining their lead just 13 seconds later, 21-14.

The Lake would start to take the air out of the ball on their next drive using 12 plays to travel 70 yards for the score when Wheeler scored his first of two touchdowns going 5 yards and a tied score….Rinse & Repeat, 21-21.

Taylor would continue to stun, The Lake, with another quick score after a 45 yard jaunt that left 2 minutes remains before intermission.

It was another CL drive that had the Hawks taking flight when Wheeler found King for 23 yards~Kobe Halverson for 28 yards~and Thomas Inmon 7 yards. Then Wheeler would take the reins for 8 yards that left a Duck defensive back wishing he could have Ducked further after a collision at the goal line and a Hawk score, 28-28 going into halftime.

That last drive would be super charged for The Lake as the remainder of this contest had 6 drives culminating in 6 scores and an eventual 70-35 final.

The Ducks were grounded with two more Hawk interceptions (Slater Sutherland & Carter Prieto) combined with a 7 yard punt and a failed fourth down try.

Canyon Lake finished with 613 yards their second consecutive 600 plus total yardage in a night that led to the Ducks Ducking into the night.

The Lake will celebrate Homecoming next week against Travis for a chance to compile more wins in hopes of a post-season escapade.

Way to GO HAWKS!
