Girl’s Basketball Coach Zach Burleson
The ReSporter: What is one of the biggest improvements you have seen since the first tip-off for this year?
Coach Burleson: “Probably our confidence. We have had a couple close calls that haven’t gone our way. And hopefully we are getting to where we can get over that and just move on to the next contest. I hope winning in Wimberley and Navarro would be deposits in the bank for when we need them down the road.”
The ReSporter: How has the Basketball IQ improved?
Coach Burleson: “We are trying to get better at what we do every day. I think we are starting to realize what it’s going to take for us to be successful down the road. Now we have to execute that.”
The ReSporter: The games during your tournaments were rough, what do you hope to achieve from those contests?

Go Hawks
A five game winning streak is now in the books as Canyon Lake took care of Austin Travis with a, 45-19 win.
“We struggled shooting tonight,” Head Coach Zach Burleson started. “We had looks but we just did not hit many shots.”
The Hawks were short handed in this victory as Christmas break seemed to take some players on this night.
This did turn out to be a good game for the freshman players as they contributed 20 points and 19 rebounds to the Hawk cause.

Parker Mott is all smiles after having 7 assists in his first start.
Canyon Lake got their game going in the second half to pull out a win over Jourdanton as the Hawks kept their 3rd straight team to 47 points in the win, 58-47.
“It was ugly,” Head Basketball Coach Luke Chapman said. “We executed in the 2nd half as we put a new offense in and when we ran it, it looked good.”
Ugly wins are still wins and there was a time not too long ago that any type of win would have been accepted like a 6 year old going after presents on Christmas day under the Tree.
The Hawks will take a Christmas Break as they go back to the hard wood in the Fredericksburg Tourney, December 27th and hopefully after opening some presents will reap more improvements in their game.
This contest had CL with a chance to open some presents early with a good night of free throw shooting (84%) from the line and that went a long way in keeping the distance needed for this victory.

Head Basketball Coach Lucas Chapman
The ReSporter: How low does your turnovers need to be in order to be in games and a chance for wins? You are averaging right at 20 per game after 12 games.
Coach Chapman: “Our goal is to have 15 or less turnovers a game or a 20% turnover rate. Right now we are at a 28% turnover rate, which is way too high. We just have to be more disciplined with the ball and make more crisp passes. That has been our emphasis for a while now, so we will continue to work on it.”
The ReSporter: The team blocks seem to be coming from anyone on the court is that just the athleticism of the team or do you look for match-ups that can give you that type of advantage?
Coach Chapman: “Well we have a lot of size, which always helps. Really we don’t ever talk about blocks. We are more focused on not fouling and taking a charge when we get dribble penetrations, but obviously in certain situations it is nice to have some length and size and get some blocks.” Read the rest here »

Go Hawks
Canyon Lake needed an alarm clock to go off earlier after spotting Pleasanton a 19 point lead that could not be overcome in loss, 55-46.
It was the Hawks JV second loss of the year and a exhausting comeback try came up short after reducing the Eagles lead to 5 points in the 4th quarter.
Most of the scoring came from 3 players, Benjamin Rowe (10), Nicolas Rivera (14), and Zachary Griffin (19) points.

Jake Ramirez continues strong play in win over Pleasanton
Canyon Lake’s Dam broke on Pleasanton Eagles as the Hawks rushed out to a 24-1 first quarter on their way to a 59-47 victory on Tuesday night.
The Hawks now sport a 8-5 record with one more game before the Christmas Break.
During the first part of this game, CL, methodically took a 6-0 lead before a time-out by Pleasanton.
After that break, Jacob Ramirez would make two 3 pointers in a row followed by Heath McDonough scoring two baskets on hustle plays and ballooning the lead, 16-1.

Go Hawks
Canyon Lake Lady Hawks take out the Navarro Panthers with a hard fought win, 57-53.
“We really battled well all night,” Head Coach Zach Burleson said. “It was a real good win for us and this is a tough place to play.”
This 9th win tied last year’s total and with another Hawk victory, this team will have the most conquests in the past 4 years.
