Hawks Freshman Use “Ground & Pound”

BOERNE, Texas –The Canyon Lake Freshmen Hawks took a cue from the New York Jets and used their own version of “pound and ground” to rough up the Boerne Greyhounds 26-7 Thursday night to even their season record at 4-4 and 3-1 in district play.

From the first kick and even walking off the bus the Hawks used a physical, suffocating defense and a powerful, efficient run game to win in Boerne for the second time this season.

“We knew we were going to beat them when we walked off the bus,” defensive lineman Dallas Sandau said. “But at the same time we knew they were going to come at us pretty hard because they wanted revenge, so we had to be ready to go.”

The Hawks were indeed ready to go and used their “pound” first on the defensive side of the ball to hold the Greyhounds to 60 total yards and three 1st downs in the first half.

CLJV Hawks Lose to Boerne JV, 28-7

Canyon Lake Junior Varsity were beat by the Greyhounds from Boerne last Thursday at Hawk stadium, 28-7.

The Hawks were run over by a Greyhound by the tune of 276 yards or over eight yards per carry. The game continued to go downhill for both the offense and defense as the game continued in the last two quarters.

Canyon Lake scored on their second drive of the game by going 78 yards on 11 plays to take the lead, 7-6 over Boerne.

The drive was highlighted with a 17 yard pass to Michael Sheffeild and finished with a nifty 20 yard run from Quarterback Connor Ricker.

The Hawks would not score again as they came up empty on their next seven drives for the endzone.

Volleyball: Canyon Lake lose last Home Game, 15-25, 10-25, 16-25

Amber Ramsey goes for the kill in game against Wimberley

The Lady Hawks know what standard that is needed now as they look towards next season.

This year’s team will not have the thrill of advancing to the playoffs like the previous two Hawk teams.

The first game Canyon Lake kept the score close trailing 6-8 going into the last half of the rotation.

Then the flood gates were opened and the Hawks could not get any rallies going to equate with the lethal Lady Texans.

Wimberley is one of the mainstays in Volleyball as they have set up a permanent residence in the playoffs for many years now.

CASA gets Exterminated, BCS Wins, 74-6

CASA got infested with Warriors as Bracken Christian crushed the Rams, 74-6 in a blowout Homecoming win, last Friday at Warrior Stadium.

This was the second game in as many years that Bracken could of called a game after the first quarter, as they scored over 45 points. The 58 point quarter was 12 points more when BCS had when they beat SA Lutheran last year.

Unfortunately for CASA the game went another quarter, but Bracken took it easy on their visitors from San Antonio. The Warriors finished taking a knee on the doorstep of CASA’s one yard line.

CASA had one of 33 plays that something good happened and their only score. The 70 yard pass play allowed the Rams to finish with positive yardage for the game with 51 total yards.

game to the Hawks and lapped the home team in grand fashion, 50-14 in a meeting between two undefeated District 26-3A foes.

“We’re not there yet,” Head Coach Matt Monzingo said. “This team (Wimberley) is strong, big and very balanced.”

“When they stopped Zach (Henshaw), we weren’t as tough as we needed to be,” Coach Monzingo reflected.

Wimberley seemed like they were in the Hawk’s huddle as they had four defensive backs ready when the Hawks tried a play that worked earlier this year against Luling. The first play action pass that scored on Luling was an interception against Wimberley.
