GERONIMO, Texas – “2 and 0” were the cries being heard from Panther Stadium Thursday night as the Canyon Lake Freshmen Hawks improved to 2-0 in district play and 3-3 on the season after beating the Navarro Panthers 21-8.
From the opening kick the Hawks made play after play on defense to stymie the normally methodical yet effective Panther offense as Navarro was only able to rack up 95 yards of total offense in the game.
“We read our keys and did what we talked about in practice for the past two weeks,” coach Luke Chapman said after the game. “Credit to the kids for taking coaching and executing on the field. We did a great job of being physical and each man doing his job.”

Canyon Lake could never get control of the line of scrimmage in loss to Navarro

Colin Baker Scores Fourth Quarter Touchdown
Panthers at Hawk Field Thursday night, 32-13.
Navarro did one thing well, and that was run the ball.
The old adage of run the same play until the other team can stop it was alive and well at Hawk Stadium. The Panthers averaged over nine yards per carry while the Hawks tried to find the ball.
Oh yeah, the Panthers did something else very well and that was hiding the ball from the Hawk defense. By the time CL figured which running back was running, it was too late to stop the positive yardage. Read the rest here »

Head Coach Matt Monzingo
It has been a year since the ‘Running’ of the (Bulls) Panthers at Canyon Lake field. The result was over 80 plays run by the visitors from Navarro.
The Time Of Possession (TOP) was not a stat that was kept for the game, but conventional wisdom would tell you that Navarro controlled the clock to the extent that the Panthers were walking off the field with Big Bend on their back and enjoying every stride.

Bracken Christian will have a 99.9% chance of winning their game against the San Antonio Lutheran Mustangs this Friday night.
The Mustangs are not a football juggernaut and have presently won three games in a row. Don’t let those numbers fool you however…there is a chasm as large as the Grand Canyon between five to six teams and the rest of Division 1 TAPPS schools.

Canyon Lake could not muster the energy to beat Navarro last Tuesday night at the Hawk Gym.
The loss gives Canyon Lake a large hole to dig out of for the remainder of the season.
Winning out and getting some help from some other teams will need to be the formula for the Hawks to muster enough wins to make the post season.
“We played like this the first time we played Navarro,” Head Coach Nicole Creek surmised. “At least we took one game from them last time.”

Bracken Christian got back at Kerrville OLH on Saturday with a three game sweep, 25-18, 25-21, and 25-19.
Just a couple of weeks ago this same Warriors team was beaten in Kerrville after enjoying substantial leads in two of the games. The ability of not finishing was their downfall.
Jump up the calendar from that dreadful night and you will see a team that now enjoys a five game district winning streak and is tied for first place.
The Warriors are now starting their second round through district and are jockeying for playoff seeding.

It was an epic battle, as the Bracken Christian Volleyball team held off Waldorf in a five game set on Friday night.
The win was important, since the Waldorf team was undefeated in district play.
Now BCS finds themselves with the same number of losses and a chance to forge into a tie with a victory Saturday against Kerrville OLH.
OLH was the only loss for the Warriors through the first round of district play.
BCS started the set on fire as they lapped the Waldorf team. With the score 11-9, Becky Korkosz and Briana Martinez served the team with a 12 point rally and winning the game by 13 points, 25-12.
Every time during the game, Korkosz was able to send her serve exactly where Coach Shaunna Teuton was instructing.

The grades are in for the Bracken Christian Warriors for the first half of the season. It should not be much of a surprise…A+
The Warriors have had four mercy games out of the first five games of the season. Which should give you a good idea for the high grade.
Bracken cleared the first hurdle when the Warriors beat Austin Hill Country, 68-48 on the first game of the season.
The team is averaging right at 62 points a game while giving up 15 for the first five games.
Historically BCS is averaging the most points ever at this point of the season. Last season Bracken averaged over 55 points a game based on the same number of games.
