Softball: CL suffers power outage in loss, 1-0

img_2518The Canyon Lake Hawks could not get the run to put the team in prime position in district play, when they lost a one run game to Fredericksburg Billies last Tuesday in Fredericksburg.

This was the second game in a row where the Hawks played some very good defense as pitcher Missy Romero only mustered two strikeouts.

In the fifth inning the Billies had runners on third and second after a double with one out. Enter the defense in full display when leftfielder Megan Browning caught the flyball and threw a strike to Katy Payne gunning out the Billie trying to score. Read the rest here »

Softball Hawks Beat Wimberley Texans, 2-0

The Hawks won their first game ever against the Wimberley Texans last Friday afternoon at the Hawks Softball Diamond.

Pitcher Missy Romero pitched with confidence as she threw only 35 pitches in the middle innings allowing the opportunity to pitch stronger in the heat when the latter innings came calling.

Canyon Lake’s ‘JV’ Team wins first two games in Baseball

coachOwensThe baseball team this year has gone back in time…..remember two years ago, when the CL teams oldest players were juniors?

Well, this season the baseball team we have, has gone back two years for both the Varsity and JV. Yes, the varsity does have some seniors playing, but the bulk of the players are sophomores on the varsity team.

Now, you know the problem that faces the Junior Varsity team this season. On many teams the sophomores would be playing, but that group of guys now the word freshman outside their name instead. Read the rest here »

CL Hawks Fly over the Fence in Wimberley Win, 5-3

031811-191110-logan-felchThe Hawks flew over the fence with a homerun ball off the bat of Logan Felch scoring Quinn Pike and sending the Wimberley Texans home for the long weekend.

Canyon Lake had fought from behind until the lead was reclaimed in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Daniel Camarillo laced his third hit of the evening knocking in the go ahead run (at the time) for a 3-2 lead.

“I have a good mind set of going up swinging,” sophomore Camarillo said. “This game gives us a good spirit so we can make this a habit.” Read the rest here »

Canyon Lake’s Boys Track and Field Update

The numbers below tells how the Hawks finished in their District Meet the past two years. The third line represents how this year’s team is in relation to those meets at last weeks Comfort Meet.

The Hawks are already winning the Mile Relay and very close to topping the other two relays after three weeks in the season.

Canyon Lake had 60 points in the relays which carried them to first place in the 12 team meet. The Hawks finished with 116 points beating their District opponent, Boerne by 66 points. Read the rest here »

Softball: Hawks lose Heartbreaker, 2-0 to Bandera

The Canyon Lake Hawks lost their first district game last Friday against the Bandera Bulldogs, 2-0.

When asked Head Coach John Gallagher the one word description of the game…..
“Heartbreaker”, he said.

The pitching dual was on, starting in the first inning as the Hawk’s Missy Romero and Amber Neal from Bandera set the stage. The two pitchers combined for 25 strikeouts and walked only four hitters. Read the rest here »

Baseball: CLHS loses first District game, 4-1

The Hawks started the district on the short end last Tuesday night when they lost to the Bandera Bulldogs after their bats went silent.

The Bulldogs pitcher struck out 11 Hawks in the game snuffing out any rallies that the Hawks might have started.

Errors were also a bug-a-do, when a routine grounder made it to the outfield scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Of the four runs scored by the visitors only one of the runs was earned. Read the rest here »
