The Canyon Lake freshman team could not hold onto the lead, as the Boerne freshmen took the lead and game with less than two minutes at Hawk Stadium last Thursday night.
Colin Baker was the highlight film on this Thursday evening, as the running back finished with 123 yards receiving and 103 yards rushing.
“Without the receivers blocking for me, I would not have been successful on the long pass play,” Colin Baker said. “It was a hit and run and I ran my butt off. It is what it is.”

Conner Ricker hands the ball off to Colin Baker during the Boerne game.
The 226 total offensive yards also included two touchdowns receiving. The one reception has to be a record for the freshmen, as Baker caught the pass from Conner Ricker and scored with no time left on the clock for intermission.
“I saw the outside blitz and the safety come up,” quarterback Ricker said.
Ryan Pliler was also a recipient of a 38-yard pass-and-run that helped the Hawks to the 18-7 lead.
Canyon Lake could not keep up the intensity, as the Greyhounds rebounded and scored the last 14 points while holding the Hawks scoreless in the second half.
“We did not play with emotion for the second half,” Head Freshman Coach Brian Owens said. “We did not sustain the rest of the game.”
“We need to focus more,” a confident Ricker finished. “I know we will do better next week.”

The Mountain Valley Middle School seventh-grade football team battled Wimberley to a draw last Thursday at Hawk Stadium, with the “B” squad losing 0-25 and the “A” squad posting a 12-6 victory.
The “B” squad was running in molasses for most of the game, as the B Hawks never could get traction in the game.
Robert Romero was the most productive runner, as he would never say die and kept his feet moving to inch out as much yardage as possible. He finished with 44 yards on 10 carries. Read the rest here »

With soot-covered hands, Felix Rangel and his daughter, Ariana, 12, picked through the rubble of their home Sunday evening in hopes of finding a few things to salvage out of the ashes as rain clouds piled up in the east.
On Friday around 9:30 a.m., their doublewide mobile home, located in the 200 block of Caribou Drive in Deer River off FM 306, was gutted by fire in a five-alarm blaze that started in Ariana’s bedroom. The Spring Branch Volunteer Fire Department answered the call and was able to contain the fire to just the structure. Read the rest here »
