Softball’s Top 3 for 2016 Season
Wednesday, March 2nd, 2016Hawks Don’t Get DoOver in Loss to Johnson City, Lose 7-4
Tuesday, March 1st, 2016If Canyon Lake could have ‘do-overs’ then redoing that 2nd Inning would be where the Hawks would have another chance of playing that inning after a hard fought loss to Johnson City, 7-4.
It has been mentioned before as this year’s Hawk team has just one Senior and has the look of how Canyon Lake started when the school was just starting.
So, this is not the first time for Head Coach Trent Dunavant to be in these situations, “I am finding myself saying things to this team that I said back when we first started.”
“This was a tough game but our effort was good and we knew this year would be a struggle,” Coach Dunavant said. “This team likes to come to the park and they are getting things done and they want to learn and teaching these guys is many times, more than just baseball.”
CL Hawks Beat Freddie in Softball, 4-0 **Updated with BoxScore
Tuesday, March 1st, 2016Canyon Lake has a 2 game winning streak over Fredericksburg as Alexis Robinson threw a shutout over the Billies to improve their record to, 9-3-1 as the Hawks prepare for the Blanco tournament this Thursday.
“This game was something that we needed,” Head Coach John Gallagher said. “This is the type of game we will see when we start district.”
Canyon Lake’s schedule is crafted, by helping the team to improve as district starts which is always that end goal in getting players ready for a larger pie.
Coaches Corner with Boy’s Soccer, Warren Graham
Tuesday, March 1st, 2016The ReSporter caught up with Boy’s Soccer Coach Warren Graham as the first round of district games are coming to a close after tonights game with Wimberley.
The ReSporter: Hey Coach, give us an idea of how you assess the team and prepare them for the round of district games.
Coach Graham: “We record all of our games, so reviewing film is a big part of preparation as you enter the second round. The boys try to learn tendencies of the other team, see what we did that worked well against them, and learn from the mistakes we made in the first round. We then take what worked well and develop drills in practice to reinforce that so they feel comfortable going into the next game.”
The ReSporter: This district is not an easy group of games for the Hawks, tell us about the competition. (more…)
Track & Field Keep Improving in Dripping Springs
Monday, February 29th, 2016Canyon Lake went to Dripping Springs this past Saturday and once again showed promise as this group of athletes raised the bar with their competition.
Last week, the Hawks were matched with Dripping Springs, Hays, and San Marcos schools.
This week the field was larger and when that happens it becomes harder to get in position for scoring points.
What Coaches are looking for when in these situations is how well is that athlete doing in topping their personal bests and that was a win for the Hawks.
High Point for CL’s Girls Varsity was Bailey Drum for the second week in a row with 18.5 points while Emma Gray also reached double digits with 11 points.
Madison Blackburn and Adia Garcia both had 4 points for the Girls Junior Varsity team.

Cows Hiding as Hawks Tear Cover off Ball in win over Seminole, 12-0
Saturday, February 27th, 2016Cows were seen running for the hills after Canyon Lake’s softball game with Seminole ended on a run rule, 12-0 as the Hawks finished the tournament undefeated and one tie.
Canyon Lake hit the cover off the ball with 13 hits as all but one Hawk batter made it to base safely.
With just one game of stats not complete the Hawks can go 8 batters with a .300 batting average or higher.
Carly Dubois who carries a .398 lifetime batting average looks anemic with a .351 so far this season.
The Hawks have found their bat and the result is Cows heading for the hills to protect their hide as CL was busy trying to find some leather to rewrap the balls hit throughout this 3 day tournament.

CL Hawks Takes Care of Flatonia and Harper
Friday, February 26th, 2016Canyon Lake wakes up in time to get a two game winning streak after the second day of games as the Hawks win last games against Harper and Flatonia.
In that first game, the Hawks, had to rally for a tie as a 5-0 lead was reduced to a 2 run deficit as the game’s time limit was starting to close out the affair.
Alexis Robinson started the 5th inning with a double and then Kat Weber would single Robinson home as CL still needed at least one more score to tie this game.
That hit came from the bat of Bailey Bryan and she was left stranded on third base as Canyon Lake just could not close the game out.

Softball Hawks Persevered in Win, 4-3
Thursday, February 25th, 2016Canyon Lake persevered in their first tournament game played on Thursday against Johnson City, 4-3.
“We did not give up and persevered,” Head Softball Coach John Gallagher stated. “We started slow but our pitching was very good and we got it done in the last inning.”
Drama was part of the action as both teams scored in their final at bat as the Hawks pushed across the winning run with 2 outs after a Alexis Robinson walk.
That base on balls had Robinson scooting to second base with a steal and then an error on a throw to second allowed Kirsten Jones to score that winning run.
